The Buffs need to quickly shake off a tough 2-0 loss to the #11 ranked BYU Cougars Friday, as the New Mexico Lobos come to Boulder for a 1:00 start (MT) today at Prentup Field.

Note- Special notice for those with sensitive butts- this could be THE match you want to attend if you "can". Per the below linked preview article (My emphasis)-

"
GAME PROMOTIONS: The Buffs will host a free skills and drills clinic for kids (8th grade and under) before Sunday’s match, beginning at 11 a.m. Space is limited to 100 participants. RSVP to Alyson Yarwood at 303-492-6771 or alyson.yarwood@colorado.edu. Also, fans are encouraged to arrive early to receive a free commemorative seat cushion to celebrate the Buffs’ back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS: New Mexico is 1-2 in three matches this season with its two losses coming against top-ranked and defending National Champion Florida State, 3-1 and No. 15 Texas Tech, 1-0. Love when the freshmen get their 1st goals- congrats to her! Keep it up Buffs! (My home internet keeps having momentary lapses today, and I've missed both the goals on the stream.)

Per live stats-
"41:11 Colorado 0 - 2 GOAL by COLO Zuniga, Stephanie, Assist by Stark, Brittney and Paxton, Emily, goal number 1 for season."

Orejel GOAL on a long throw-in by Danica Evans!

Live stats- "53:23 Colorado 0 - 3 Header GOAL by COLO Orejel, Joss, Assist by Evans, Danica and Kinzner, Sarah, goal number 1 for season."

Edit- looking quickly at the stats, This looks to be sophomore defender Joss Orejel's 1st goal as a Buff. Also, frosh Sarah Kinzner's assist looks to be her 1st point as a Buff. Congrats to both!

GOAALLLL!!!! #4. Brittney Stark from Brie Hooks

Per live stats- "73:55 Colorado 0 - 4 GOAL by COLO Stark, Brittney, Assist by Hooks, Brie, goal number 1 for season."

3 great chances just now -- off goalie, off post and then just wide to the right.

I was able to watch, in person. I was a bit worried about how CU would come out after the loss on Friday night to BYU. Not that they played poorly in Provo, more that I was concerned about a let down. It obviously didn't happen. The Buffs were clearly the better side for the full 90 minutes in all ways. New Mexico was not as talented or confident against the Buffs as Colorado College was a week ago.

CU was putting pressure on UNM from the beginning to the end and while the passes weren't always as pretty as last week they were finding ways to get the ball into the goal scorers. It was great to see Danica Evans score her first goal as a Buff! She works hard all the time.

In the second half after the third goal CU started to sub quite liberally and I was impressed that the team still played like a team. There was sharp passing with good knowledge of where teammates would be. Again, this tells me that CU has a lot of depth this season, perhaps as much as they've ever had.

I've been reading about the impact the freshmen are having on the volleyball squad. Well, today was a day when a lot of the young soccer players got into the act. Last Sunday both Sarah Kinzner and Erin Greening made an impression. Today both of the started and played well (Greening took Brittney Stark's spot). But beyond those two Stephanie Zuniga, Brooklyn Varnadore, Amy Alexander and Amy Vidger all got significant time and played well. It really does look like a very good group.

Would love if they had another angle of the goal, as it evidently misses a main part of the goal- the throw-in 1st went to frosh Sarah Kinzner, and she headed it over to Joss Orejel for the goal.

As shown on the highlight, love that the Buffs now have a player (I believe they're pretty rare?) who can make the LONG throw-in (Junior transfer Danica Evans).

Exactly. They edited out the portion of the play where Kinzner flicked the ball with her head directly back to Oregel who had an easy header for the goal. She didn't really have to jump, although it helps being 6-0 to win headers.

It was a flip throw in! Awesome.
