Man, in Mac's first game here, we whipped CSU and I remember thinking, "Finally, we look like we've got a coach who can prepare us for a game." We eliminated the mistakes so common under previous regimes. Of course, the success was short lived as CU began losing on a regular basis. But we expected that. Last year, I expected improvement and we began against CSU like we were going to blow them out of the stadium. But then, in the second half, things started going south and they kept going south all season. But we had some close losses and I chalked it up to inexperience. I still felt like Mac knew what he was doing and would turn it around.

After the Hawaii game, I'm really beginning to question if Mac knows how to get this team ready, to make game adjustments, to motivate, to plan. All those things. This is the second year in a row he's been out coached in the opener. Can Mac get it done? Can he turn it around? I'm beginning to wonder.

I have never seen MM as a strategic guy. His calls are iffy. His time-out management last night was suspect. I'm sure Norm Chow would beat him at Chess.

To me, MM seems more like a big picture, grow your team guy. A guy who can develop and teach. So what hurts about last night was that his team seemed unprepared.

And sometimes his 'non-football' decisions seem dumb. According the the box score, Frazier didn't get any carries - so what was the point of that 1/4 suspension, that pissed off many faculty, staff and caused many fans to compare us to the SEC, for slap-on-the-wrist "discipline"?

Two years in a ****ing row we let the clock run out at the end of the game. Maddening. Fool me once.....

It's amazing how often this team let's the refs affect the outcome of our games. We must be the unluckiest team in the country. :meh:

Meh. Talent is and continues to be this program's biggest issue. We have more talent than Hawaii, but the gap is not wide and becomes an issue on our off nights. Just getting a bunch of developmental players and hoping they are going to be dramatically better as upperclassmen is not going to work.

Amen, the officials did not lose the game for us, it was the **** play for 59:30.

But some of that seems to be trending in a better direction for this current recruiting class. Not saying we have blue chippers, but certainly in on guys who are a cut above what we have been seeing.

Yes. Realistically though, we need to string a few comparable or better classes in a row to truly transform the roster.

Our worst unit from last year played better than our best unit from last year. Our defensive coordinator was a successful HC. He had his unit ready to play. Our offense was discombobulated and unprepared. Not to mention ST's.

A lot of blame goes to the refs there.
With 17 seconds left and no time outs, you don't throw to a receiver that's behind the line to gain. Ever. The officials didn't force us to do that.

For that matter, with 17 seconds left and no time outs, if you're on the 12 yard line with 3 downs to use, who cares about getting the first down? The ball needs to go to the end zone, period. The officials didn't keep us from doing that either.

Yes I understand it was a dumb play. But it doesn't take 14 seconds to set the ball. It's basic mechanics.

The ball was marked for a 1st as well according to the game report. If officials can't get the ball set and another player interrupts that, which happened, it's the officials job to stop the clock, set the ball, and then start the clock. It's very basic.

We did not get a first down. The scorekeeper erred in reporting the yardage gained. But the officials could have stopped the clock if they thought that the Hawaii player intentionally touched the ball when it was being passed around. They ruled he did not. It was a bad luck play at the end of a game that should not have come down to luck.

It shouldn't have come down to it, but if a opposing player is hit by the ball it needs to be blown dead.

I'm not sure what you mean by "marked for a first down" since he was tackled on the 9 when the line to gain was the 7.

But it doesn't matter. Even if he had got the first down and had killed the clock, that play call and sefo's choice of receivers was completely useless. getting a few yards closer isn't worth giving up time when you only have 17 seconds left. Competent coaches know this.

Isn't the rule now there has to be 3 seconds to spike it or it's over anyway? Had they spotted it, they would have had to run something on a whim. That's why you call 2 plays in the huddle in that situation. Maybe they did that, who knows? They didn't seem to have much urgency imho.

You can get away with this at san jose st...the refs were bad but cu had numerous chances to take this game over.

Not when you wasted time outs the MM did in the second half. You can say the refs ****ed around but we should never have been in a spot where the refs could have ****ed us. Not taking that craptastic attitude on this game. He flat out got smoked in the coaching area and had one of the worst on field coaching performances I have seen since, I do know, oh yea. Since Embree. Freaking horrible.

Did you miss where I said we shouldn't have put ourselves in that position? That doesn't excuse the refs being unable to spot the ball in 14 seconds and allow a player to touch the ball preventing them from spoting it.

Hawaii brought the house all game, and we didn't throw one screen pass.

Just stop. Please. We are where we are and we are what we are. Let's see if they can transform and somehow get this wreck straightened out.

Incorrect.

According to the CU play-by-play on CUBuffs.com:

"Colo 2-5 at Uh12 Liufau, Sefo pass complete to Lindsay,Phillip for 6 yards to the UH6, 1ST DOWN COLO (NELSON, Nick)."

http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=210315101&DB_OEM_ID=600

So not only did it take 12-14 seconds to spot the ball, they also had the time for the chains to move and spot it. If the refs don't take as long as they did, or actually officiated and blew it dead when it hit the Hawaii player, we in all likelihood would have been able to spike the ball.

Just stop. Please. We are where we are and we are what we are. Let's see if they can transform and somehow get this wreck straightened out.

I'm in complete agreement that we shouldn't have put ourselves in that position again. But at the same time, that doesn't excuse the refs incompetence.

As Buffnut said, the game report is incorrect; we did not get a 1st down. Regardless, the players need to be taught to sprint the ball to the officials in a hurry up situation instead of relying on it being relayed twice by the officials. I do believe that if the defense hinders the offenses ability to snap the ball in any way, intentional or not, it should be a dead ball, at least until they spot it.

I'm a lot more likely to believe the game report
