Shawn Watson -- ouch

Charlie Strong grasping at straws right now. Texas looked like dog meat and the million dollar donor club doesn't like explaining another big loss on national TV to their buddies from A&M and Oklahoma.

When you have Texas money the contract buy-out doesn't give him much if any protection. He better get things turned around quick or he is going to be unemployed.

strong will be gone by end of season. He will be known as the coach who cleaned up Mac Brown's spa for 4 and 5 star recruits. "You can't hit women, you can't rob stores, and you don't need guns."

Could this CU coaching staff and team beat this Texas coaching staff and team?

UCLA is the most famous team for doing the least with the most but I think Texas is quickly taking over that title.

Have to say I respect decisive action when the situation calls for it.

Didn't you just post in another thread that Strong knows how to assemble a staff?

Yeah, I did. There are exceptions, obviously. Didn't the booger coach with Strong in Louisville?

That's sounds right. I remember a game that he called in recent years that flabbergasted me (by the success of the playcalling). I couldn't remember the team or game, but it was probably University of Bridgewater over Florida in the bowl game (that contributed to my continued belief that the SEC has been overrated for a few years).

Hate to rain on the parade, but Strong is not going to fail at UT. Us, on the other hand, not so sure. I just hope we beat CSU at least.

Strong could win 9 games and the pitchfork crowd will want his head. It's hard to keep the peasants happy in Austin.

True, but I think he'll get another year at least and by then they should have a solid offense. Defense won't be a problem once offense gets things sorted out.

He get embarrassed by OU and they will be ready to fire him that day.

He can get his defense sorted out but if they can't score they can't win and their offense is pathetic.

The big money guys didn't like him when he was hired and liked him even less after meeting him a few times. He would need to make a huge turnaround to get them on his side and that isn't going to happen.

I hear ya, but disagree. No question some of the boosters didn't like the hire, but others did. I completely agree, though, that if the offense keeps playing like it has, he's gone. I think it will improve, though.

Could it be that he's grown as a coordinator and a human being in all those years after leaving Boulder? He's had stops in a few decent places. And yeah, he lit it up at Louisville. Did Barnett limit his playbook at CU while others didn't?

We like to give shawn **** for the last few years at CU. Did he not call the 62-36 game as well as all those games in our last glorious run in 2001? Was it his fault after Marcus Houston and Craig Ochs that Barnett stopped recruiting top flight players? Probably not.

Just so we're all on the same page, is this still the thread where Shawn Watson was just relieved of his play-calling duties?

JT Barrett, you could be a hero back home (Wichita Falls) in Texas. Leave OSU right now and be eligible by game three next season.

booger did indeed give us 98g and the beat-down of the fuskers for the ages. he also gave us a barrel full of turds in his tenure. still, he's the most qualified oc we've had in years and years. helfrich being perhaps the other one.

Is it Shawn? Or is it Charlie trying to save his skin from all those unmotivatable 5* super stars that combined scored 3 pts?

My guess is the answer is somewhere in the middle

Shawn showed what he could do when he had good players. Which of the two stopped recruiting for all the years after 2001 is up for debate. Helfrich on the other hand was way smarter; unlike Shawn he left at the first signs of doubt.

strong should have fired himself after that performance

I agree. I recall them looking nearly as awful towards the end of last season as well.

Just looked it up. They got spanked by Arkansas and TCU for the last two games and blew a chance to go bowling in the process.

Blew a chance at finishing with a winning record. TCU loss had them finish the regular season at 6-6. Arkansas steamrolled them in front of a pro-Texas crowd in the bowl game.

ha ha ha! Yeah! See? It's definitely not our program that makes coaches look bad! Ha ha ha! Didn't we also have another offensive coordinator who was terrible? Mike or Mack Helford? Yeah, that's it! I think! Can't even remember his name! I think he is the head coach up at, like, Oregon St. or Oregon A&M. Probably failing pretty spectacularly I'm sure, too! Ha ha ha!

/sarcasm

When guys like Red McCombs are saying "I am sure he is a nice position coach, maybe a coordinator" its time to find a realtor. I said it in another thread, Strong needs to send Teddy B a big Thank You, without him Charlie might not be in Louisville right now, and he sure as hell isn't in Austin.
