CSU Pregame Thread

What does CU need to do to win this game? And I know for all of the smartasses on the board, we need to score more points. With that little detail out of the way, what say you?

For me, we need to continue to run the damn ball and be physical on the Oline. We may not put up 300 plus yards but I do feel we need to put up 250 plus yards on the ground.

The D needs to get better in the backfield as the Rams are going to try and take advantage of what has been our biggest weakness and they will have Higgins back. We are going to have to improve in coverage to win the game. The Rams QBs have not looked good but getting their best weapon back will instantly improve their passing game.

Sefo is going to have to stop thinking so much and hit some passes that are longer than 5 yd outs. We still do not look like we have a way to stretch the field and I think we are going to need 3-5 plays during the game to force the Rams to respect the passing game. Right now, we have not shown enough to make anyone respect our passing game. He needs to learn how to step up in the pocket and get rid of the ball and hit a target.

Along with Sefo improving, we need to have the Oline provide him some better pass protection. While I agree with what everyone is saying about Sefo regressing, his offensive line has not helped his cause. They block well in the running game but have been pathetic in pass protection.

Let's here your thoughts.

We need to pound the ball and try to keep that working. Then longer we wear them down and keep the pressure off of Sefo the better. Then when we do throw they better be longer than 3 yard passes. If you can hit the 10 plus yard passes and keep the D back a little then it keeps the running going. My worry is that CSU goes up by 7 or 10 and Lingren ditches the run game and panics into pass-a-polooza.

D needs to blitz and put pressure on CSU. Dl has to keep getting better and that will help out the DBs immensely.

Hard part is knowing if the Hawaii game CU team shows up or the UMass CU team.

On offense we need to run the ball and throw deep on play action--the ol' Hawkins "pound it and launch it." UMASS never gave us the chance because they insisted on playing with 2 deep safeties (allowing us to run for 350+ yards.) Also, this is the game we need to spring the TE or the slot receiver for big plays.

On defense, we need to do what Leavitt does and harass the QB, who don't seem like guys who will hurt you with their legs. They seem prone to throwing picks.

Take what they give. I feel confident that The Buffs can move the ball on the ground or through the air versus CSU.

CSU has problems at the QB position which should make for a good defensive day for the Buffs.

This will be a low scoring game.

The team who runs the ball more effectively will win.

Hopefully our OL and stable of RBs are up for it!

Buffs need to get a lead early and hold. It plays directly into our strength and CSU'S weakness. We're not confident passing the ball down field to win late and CSU is struggling there altogether

On Offense
1. Run the ball down their throats
2. Be able to go play action deep when they start cheating up/loading the box
3. complete screen passes to Carr when the blitzes start coming. Kid has unreal speed.

On Defense
1. CSU QB does not seem like much of a threat. So corners need to be able to handle 1 v. 1 man to allow for run stopping. Can't get gashed.
2. Linebackers need to not over pursue. Gillam has done a lot of this so far this season that has extended plays for opponents.
3. Pass rushers need to get pressure on QB
4. Front 4 needs to get a solid push and eat up a lot of CSU blocks. This will be a game won by the team with the best line play.

Solid in the front seven. Fighting some injuries in the secondary. Play a physical brand of football overall.
Agree. They were very physical vs. Minnesota and they were stout in the front 7. I do think their FS plays dirty as hell though. Pierre-Louise or whatever his name is, is a walking personal foul.

Defensively, they have a slippery RB who can take it to the house on any play. Play sound run-fit D and limit the run game, and put them in some 3rd and longs. Key has a gun, but he can be forced into mistakes with some pass rush. He threw several balls such as screen passes into crowds. He won't hurt you with his feet too badly. Got to get pressure on him though as he can fit it in there on a line.

And, I think these teams come in equally motivated this year. No advantage to CSU for once.

Love our depth at RB, and agree with the potential of a screen to Carr in the wings. The mistake free game against Mass was awesome! Win the turnover battle in this game. Get the punts away cleanly.

Huge game for this team and staff. Gotta get er done.

The run game is important but we need to be able to pass the ball to take advantage of their linebackers in space. IMO that is the weakness of their front seven. If we can't protect and Sefo can't read the field they are going to get some 2012 type pressure. If we can get Lindsay, Lee and Fields in routes against their bigger, slower linebackers it should wear them out significantly.

Dammit, Tini...

On offense, take what the defense gives you. Ideally, I'd love to pound the ball down their throats. Realistically, if they stack the box, you gotta go over the top. Be prepared to make them pay for whatever they give you.

On defense, get after the QB. Send people from all over, and keep him guessing where the next hit is coming from.

What the **** 'Tini? Really?

What.the.*******.****!?
I don't give a damn. What I say or anyone on this site says has no bearing on the outcome. The team has wanted revenge for a year, we are going to **** them up.

If we had no QB people would be calling doom as well.

Another concern I had a gainst UMass was the recurring curse of bad tackling, specifically, weak arm-tackles. I didn't watch the CSU game, but it sounds like we'll have to wrap up better this coming week.

Look, I hope you're right. But you've been wrong so, so, so many times with your bold predictions. I would just think you'd be gun-shy at some point, yet here you still are.

Yep still don't give a damn.

I'll never predict a loss against them and 67% of the time I will be right.
My perspective is that when you're wrong on 33% of your all out "no chance" type guarantees, you have no credibility.

V. Hawaii, you at least acknowledged there was a chance we'd lose...

So once again, I don't give a damn. **** that **** as school and their "fans".

Ill be interested to see if @FightCu1414 can give some insight into the players mentality this week as we get closer to Sat.

Also, Minn ran for 180 yards on 41att. Avg 4.4yds per carry. Seems like they had a bit of success on the ground. Pretty balanced attack from the golden gophers with 45 passing att.
