Soccer tries to get back in the win column (after a tough 0-1 loss against the Ducks yesterday) in a Sunday noon (mountain time) matinee against the Beavers in Corvallis.

About the Beavers (from http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=210384803 )-

"...
COLORADO VS. OREGON STATE: The all-time series between the Buffaloes and Beavers is tied, 2-2 with Colorado winning the last two meetings. Last season, the Buffs earned their first win in Corvallis, defeating the Beavers 1-0 as Brie Hooks scored the game-winner.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS: Oregon State is 4-2-3 (0-1-0 Pac-12) this season and will host Utah on Friday before welcoming the Buffaloes to Corvallis on Sunday. In their conference opener last week, the Beavers fell 2-1 against USC in Los Angeles. Oregon State has shut out four opponents and has only allowed one multi-goal game (last week) this season. The OSU attack averages just over 11 shots per match. Allison Pantuso leads the team with three goals and Emma Jones is first on the squad with two assists. Goalkeeper Bella Geist has played every minute in 2015, posting a 0.60 goals-against average and owns all four shutouts.

Note- OSU lost to Utah 0-1 on Friday after the above was written.

Note 2- Looks like this is one of those rare games nowadays that won't have any live video available.

Just saw the score on this one, and it wasn't good, as the Buffs get shut out 0-2 by OSU.

Thankfully, their win against ranked Cal help limit the damage this tough weekend of results in Oregon caused, but they have definitely lost a lot (if not all) of any cushion that Cal win gave them, and they'll definitely want/ need to take care of business next weekend at home against the Washington schools, who are both pretty good clubs. (WSU was ranked #21 heading into this weekend, Washington #27.) In a Pac 12 perspective, the Oregon schools combined are as easy as it gets, so losing to both could end up hurting. (Actually, today's loss to OSU might not be too bad RPI-wise as they were #67 coming into this weekend, but Oregon had by far the worst of the Pac (#251), so that loss will take some good work the rest of the season to overcome.)

Of course, road games are never easy, and hopefully the WA schools will find that out next Friday and Sunday. Go get'um Buffs!

What's crazy is last year Oregon State was 0-17-3 and scored 4 goals all season

Yup. They have dug themselves a hole and it will be challenging to get out given the talent in the Pac 12 and the fact they only have four home matches left to go with four more away games. On paper there two matches at the Oregon schools should have been the easiest on the conference schedule. At this point I think the Buffs would be doing well to finish somewhere in the middle of the conference standings. Of course that would get them into the NCAA tourney :).

Now, didn't watch either match, so I have no idea what went wrong, but I might speculate there that they Buffs were challenged physically in the midfield and weren't able to respond effectively.
