The doom on this board this week after the Oregon loss isn't about the Oregon game at all. We were supposed to lose this game. I agree we need to start winning games we're not supposed to, but that's not the point here.

If we beat Oregon, obviously we would all be happy, but I know I would also be pissed that we wasted that Hawaii game and are sitting at 4-1 when we could have been 5-0.

If we had beaten Hawaii, then lost to Oregon the same exact way we did this week, there would be no gloom and doom here. We would be disappointed in losing (every loss is disappointing), but happy to sit at 4-1 with our only loss to one of the best teams over the past several years.

The Hawaii loss ruined this season by putting us in a hole we can't dig out of because we're not good enough compared to our conference foes. Win that game and we at least have a chance at moderate success.

It's a lot about Hawaii. It also is about us looking like a decent team with a crappy QB who made too many huge mistake, as well as folding in the third quarter after a solid first half.

I'm still pissed. I still don't believe we were prepared and Mac was out coached. Because of that loss we need(ed) an upset and Oregon appeared to be a possibility.

It's really about the hype coming into fall camp and the story that has built up over the past three years and the realization that the story wasn't true in the way we hoped it would be. UH, our struggles against CSU were a big letdown to that story

For three years the media told us how MM built San Jose State from one of the sorriest teams into a nationally ranked bowl team. First they were terrible, then they one some games and in the third year boom, they were in the top-twenty.

This was our third year and we were ready for it to happen to us...

Losing to Hawaii was like bogeying the first hole. We needed to beat Oregon to get back to even par and we couldn't do it so we're still over.

Totally agree. Hawaii was a wet blanket on the entire season. Going to take at least one signature upset for me to put it behind me and get as excited as I should be.

The OP is a very good observation. CU really needed to run the table on the oOC to have a shot at what might be considered a break out season. Dare I say we continue to Buff it?

Agree Rugged. It is also seeing a team that appears to be taking a step back from last year. Yeas we beat CSU but when in our first true test we just look like a team that will come up short or get hammered by really good teams. We are realizing we are still a long way away from being good and have an oline and QB that cannot compete at the level needed. Just disappointment all around. Not looking for a close game this weekend either. Hopefully I was ill be surprised and they will pull a rabbit out of the proverbial hat but not close to expecting it. Have a hard time finding a win anywhere on the remaining schedule and that means the rebuilding starts anew.

I still don't get why Sefo is getting so much blame. The passing game was certainly not our problem against Oregon. Plus Sefo had two of the biggest runs of the night for us. We couldn't run the ball and we couldn't stop the run, that's why we lost. Yet everyone wants to blame Sefo...?

I must not have been watching the same game.

A lot of my current emotion is based in Hawaii. It was a step backward, when there was so much energy going into the season. It was the first time since the first game last year that I felt we were out coached.

The Hawaii game showed me how much our offense has taken a step back. They will need to find and upset in the ASU, UA, USC, Stanford, Utah games to make that Hawaii game not sting at the end of the year.

blame the QB when things go wrong and deify them when things go well

Regardless of the outcome in Hawaii, this season is likely a failure. I agree with Brad....We are not currently good enough to win in this conference. Sefo cannot find wide open receivers. Injuries are killing us in a big way. And recruiting is still at the bottom of the PAC, despite our recent success in Florida and Georgia. We may want to face the possibility that our potential is now similar to teams like Purdue, Wake Forest, Washington State, etc.

He's also clearly not near 100%. Which, IMO, does mean a lot of criticism is unwarranted at this point. If we don't have a guy that can beat him out as beat up as he is, that's on the staff, not on Sefo.

Hawaii also made it bad when we see how bad they really are. Shutout against Wiscy and tOSU and someone else I think. Ugh.

Even when he is 100%, he is a turnover machine.

If you suit up and play, injuries can't be an excuse. With that said, I agree that the criticism is unwarranted to the extent that he's received. He has missed some receivers and fumbled at a bad time last week but was essentially our entire offense. He put the team in position to tie the game in the 4th quarter and he definitely didn't give up 361 yards rushing.

The CU fan base is like a woman who has been cheated on over and over. Yes we have endured some bad things, but now we have behaviors that reinforce the cycle. Wake up...some of this is on us!

The world isn't black and white, they can very much be an excuse. If his play is worse because of an injury, then it's a reasonable excuse for worse play. Sefo's not making the excuse and he's not going to tell himself he's not healthy enough to go. Fact is, he shouldn't be out there but he is. That's not on Sefo, he can't suddenly make his arm okay and play lights out. As long as he's playing 100%, if it's not good enough, he can't do anything about it. It's on the coaches if his 100% isn't good enough, it's on the coaches if all our guys are giving 100% and it's not good enough. I don't understand criticism for players at this level.

The cheated woman dreams unrealistically of prince charming, but despairs at every text message, every stray glance, every mix up. They become bitter, angry, impatient and create the environment no man, let alone no prince charming, can humanly tolerate.

We don't have prince charming, we have joe the plumber...a nice guy who gets us a condo in the suburbs.

Sefo made some mistakes against Oregon and certainly could have made more plays.

I trace almost all of that back to the fact that in addition to not having support from a running game he also had constant pressure. He didn't get any kind of consistent protection. Not many college QBs would have been highly successful under those conditions.

Bowl game isn't happening this year, and I have a hard time finding 6 wins on the slate next year. Another coaching change would optimistically set us back another 2-3 years before a bowl. They better become ****ing relevant before we start playing some real OOC competition or things could get depressing.
**** me.

It's a sports adage that if you're suiting up and on the field, injuries are not an excuse for poor performance. Its the tough guy mentality but at the end of the day, did Oregon give a **** that Sefo was hurting? Does their win count for less because our QB wasn't 100%?

I don't see how the two things relate. I'm talking about Sefo as an individual, not wins or losses being excused. Their win doesn't count for less, it's on our staff for not having a better QB than Sefo with an injured shoulder or just a better one in general. They beat what we sent out there, it's the coaches fault that what we sent out there isn't good enough. But IMO it's not fair to criticize a player individually who clearly is being hurt by something outside of his control, he's giving everything he's got, it's the staff's fault that that isn't good enough because somehow that's the best they can throw out there.

Look, I'm not ripping on him. I think he's the best we have even with his injury, and I already said he doesn't deserve the criticism some are giving him. However, it's because I don't think he's played as poorly as some do, not because of his injury. I am of the opinion that injury is not an excuse as to why a player didn't play well.

You can have your shrubbery and window treatments if you don't complain incessantly...and a few special favors now and then would be nice.
