Mixed feelings. Want the South to look strong but I find it difficult to root for the Condoms.

Everyone in the conference has shown themselves to be vulnerable. No great teams this year.

Stanford is looking the part now too after struggling against NW. Stanford v Utah in the PAC12 champ game?

Utah is the only one that has looked the part this year.

Not against Utah State, they didn't. And Michigan, while a good win, wasn't a game they looked "great" in. I'm just not seeing a team in the Pac-12 that looks like it can roll into the playoffs. Rather, a bunch of teams I think are really good but outside the top ten when the dust settles.

looks like a recipe for getting no teams in the playoff... until you look at the rest of the P5. The only thing that is reasonably certain is that the B12 is getting a team into the playoffs this year. Whichever conference cannibalizes itself the most will be the one left out. That looks to be the SEC or P12, and I'm leaning towards the P12. But the ACC might be bad enough to save both.

Exactly... If they make it that far, is anyone supremely confident that Utah would beat Stanford, Oregon or Cal in the Pac 12 Championship?

The game this weekend against Cal will definitely show if UU is coming into their own or not.

Every other team in the Pac seems to be able to win a big game. Maybe there is still hope that CU can manage to not be the bottom every week.

If they fix the line to some degree and Sefo gets hot, we will win a few games we shouldn't. If.

Don't care much about Pac12 national perception at this point - need more vulnerable teams in front of us so we can steal a few wins. We don't need a respectable league at this point, we need a respectable record.

Glad they lost. Sark is a hell of a recruiter though and is stocking that cupboard full beyond belief. When they do get a new coach he won't have to rebuild in the slightest.

He could pull a Stoops.

Please no. Win every game now except CU. dude needs to stay. Killer recruiter, but since we aren't in competition for any of his guys I like him as a game day coach we play against.

I really doubt Chip K. goes back to CFB. He really, really, really did not do well having to handle the politics of being a CFB HC. He is a very complex personality leaning towards introvert. He likes being in his ivory tower office and doing x's and o's. Much better suited to the NFL, IMO.

His problem is going to be that his x's and o's don't do well in this NFL.

I suspect you are right, but I still think his departure from UO wasn't just about money. Many stories bout the AD having to pry him out of his house to go to booster functions. CK just does not like that kind of stuff.

It pisses me off because even as a bottom of the conference team, UW still has Pac 12 level talent and is capable of winning at USC. ASU is average at best and is able to go into the Rose Bowl and beat UCLA. Utah can go anywhere and beat anyone. Even freaking Cal is ranked in the top 25 now. ****ing CAL! And yet, we can't buy a damn conference win. We've lost 12 straight conference games. How is that even possible? Teams in this conference win games by accident and we've lost 12 straight in conference. The only thing UW's win did last night for me was reinforce the perception that we have a loooooooong way to go to compete in the Pac 12 week after week.

That's why I think Miami is a fit. More speed than he could ever recruit to Oregon and it's pretty much a pro team with a college attached to it.

IMO, it is because DII Danny simply stopped recruiting in '09 and '10. Keeping him for that fifth year was a MONUMENTAL strategic blunder, it did untold damage. Embree, God bless him, went for highly ranked guys, but wound up with a lot of guys who had talent, but for whatever reason could not stay in school, or in some cases just were not the players that were expected. Every HC misses on their recruiting analysis here and there, JE missed a lot. So when MikMac got here, the cupboard was about as bare as you will see at a P5 program unwanted attrition, injuries and misses on recruits were just too much. For whatever reason, MIkMac has been recruiting what appears to be the same model he had at SJSU. There have been some real "gets" Lynott, Carr, Montez and some of the guys who were already here Spruce, D. McCartney, Crawley are real talents. CU just has far too few to be effective.

If you go back and look at the rosters, or better yet games, from 2008 or before, you see a totally different looking squad talent wise, go back to say 2002 or so and the difference is staggering. CU used to have 5- 10 guys that were near certainties to play on Sunday. It all starts with the players. CU has some, just not enough. I have no doubt the guys they do have are busting their hump and doing their best, but as Parcells said, you are what your record says you are. That makes sports a harsh culture, but there it is.

Being a fan is tough when the team you root for is mired in a morass that the administration created by its mishandling of a bad, bad situation from nearly 15 years ago. I wonder sometimes if the patient was allowed to bleed too long before the doc was called, and whether the doc that was called actually went to med school.

I really dislike your accurate assessment of the situation.

IMO, HCMM went for the SJSU type recruits because he knew what he could expect from them, he knew he could get them here, and he knew that he could build a competitive team built on a foundation of those kinds of players. You can see now that his roster is comprised of the guys he wants it to be comprised of that now he is going for the higher rated athletes.

MacIntyres strategy, at least what I think his strategy is, is risky because it takes a lot of time. It could be the foundation for some real long term success, but he may not get the chance to see it pay off.

That is my fear as well. I tend to get pretty fired up. I often lose my cool. When I calm down, I see the team getting better, but they were so far down, and the competition is ramping up too, it is like starting a 400 meter dash with the other guys getting a 100 meter head start. Sure you might push yourself to go faster, but even when the other guys stumbles, you are still way behind.

When I heard a recent interview with MikMac saying that he looks for guys who play multiple sports and have the ability to grow into their spots, I thought, "so he is on a five to six year plan". That is great but I go back to the analogy above, he is starting form way behind and employing the tortoise model against a conference of hares. I fear RG is not going to have that kind of patience with an empty stadium and bright shiny multi million dollar facilities. If Gary just could have kept his mouth shut that one time....

I think there is a shift happening right now. I think we are seeing HCMM's strategy starting to work. All the pieces are coming together, the only thing missing is the wins, and they are getting closer on that end. That is what is so frustrating, and probably why the fan base is getting so restless. There is hope in these games. It hurts a lot more knowing we have a shot to win and don't, then it did when we knew we had no shot at all.

I think RG is a patient person. I know that people here are quick to point out HCMM is not RG's coach, but I think they have a much closer working relationship than people want to acknowledge. That being said, RG is also a business man. He needs results. Once keeping HCMM becomes more detrimental than finding a new staff, RG will make the move. I just don't really have a feel for where that line is.
