Women's basketball Pac 12 Media Day- 2015

I have to say, I am pretty excited about the incoming freshman. I can't wait to see them in games. I wonder if all 4 get significant play time this season?

At least two (Kennedy Leonard & Alexis Robinson) of the four will see a lot of playing time and both have a shot at starting. When you look at the lack of numbers and experience in the back court it's logical that those two will have to make significant contributions. Lappe has stated that both are in the mix for the starting point guard as is Brecca Thomas. I would guess that both Leonard and Robinson will be in the mix to start at the shooting guard as well.

This season will go as the PG position goes.
Without a doubt. CU really needs to find a leader at point guard. Having talent wouldn't hurt either.

I'm definitely looking forward to this season. A great incoming class. Women suffered the same way the men did last year, running a point who wasn't a point. Lexy did admirably, but she would have been better used as a shooter and not the ball handler. A year of practice for Brecca, and the addition Kenedy and Alexis, with some good experience to get the ball inside and out... well, I'm excited to see if it comes together, but I think it could.

I am excited about the offensive potential of this group. My concerns are:
A) Offensive consistency
B) Defending

It's just tough to rely on a number of young players to produce on the offensive end of the court. And even harder to rely on them to play the level of defense needed for CU to win more often than not in the conference portion of the schedule. Defense and turnovers have been issues the last two seasons and now for CU to be successful this group will have to do better than the more experienced players they are in effect replacing.

Thus my expectations are tempered quite a bit. I really feel that 9th place is about where this team will finish in the Pac-12 regular season.

Well, for whatever it's worth, they are "focused" on defense this year. Jamee expects CU to be top-3 in the PAC in defense. Turnovers came so often against pressure, if we have a couple ball handlers, it'll make a world of difference. But yes, putting expectations on a group of freshman is not reasonable. I'll read too much in to early season results.

Wonder how last season's seniors is feeling if they have heard that Lappe has stated that last year's team was the worst she has coached and they have to get back to playing the CU way, which is defense. Jamee made it sound like they were not playing as a team last year. I hope those who were not seniors learned their lesson about playing as a team.

Agree this team goes as the point guard goes and if the point guards stay healthy. Also hope Swan has finally learned how to not let calls she doesn't like get to her and play consistently in both halves.
