From ESPN.com:

PISTONS TO RETIRE JERSEYS OF BILLUPS, WALLACE

Chauncey Billups (No. 1) and Ben Wallace (No. 3) will have their numbers retired at two separate game-night ceremonies later this season, according to the Detroit Free Press. Both numbers are currently being used by players on the roster (Reggie Jackson wears 1, Stanley Johnson wears 3).

Well deserved.

As a kid that grew up in Denver, there are only two people that are really Denver royalty to me - John Elway and Chauncey Billups. Smooth was and is still a great representative of the city, the state, and CU.
Yup. Congrats Chauncey

CB inducted into the HOF. Well-deserved.

But, what about Jay Humphries?
#13 overall NBA pick
Played 11 years - NBA
Still an NBA coach.

Definitely one of the top ten CU players ever, but, he wasn't named an "all-American", so he can't be in the HOF. What BS.

CU should get it's head out of it's ass on this.

Is All American a requirement to be in the HOF? I watched Humphries play and he was a great player. He is deserving of being in the HOF.

Erin Scholz was inducted last night and I don't think she was an All American.

From her official CU bio:

  • Two-Time WBCA All-Region
  • 1996 All-Big Eight First Team
  • 1997 All-Big 12 Second Team
  • 1,621 Points, 1,027 Rebounds

I emailed the sport's information people last year and that's what I was told. Seems dumb.

I'm surprised. WBB player Bridget Turner was never an All American. Can't imagine all the volleyball players were either.

Maybe different rules for different sports--or just excuses. If that's the case, no current men's basketball player will ever be in the HOF.

I just clicked on all of the women's basketball players. As I thought, only Shelley Sheetz was an All American. I spent time clicking on other sports and everyone in the HOF is not an All American.

My guess would be that Chauncey is the last men's basketball All American. These recent football teams won't be producing All Americans. Who are they going to induct?

I thought the AA thing was just for a football player being able to get his name up in the stadium?

Plati's minions are not as smart as he thinks they are! Lots of HOF'ers are not AA. And he's getting lazy in his dotterage.....

I spent a lot of time online last night looking at the HOF members. Not many are AA. CU hasn't had that many AA's. Keep campaigning for Humphries. He earned it. He was honorable mention AA twice.
