CU fans should embrace the stability of Mike MacIntyre

"Colorado fans – and that includes the fair-weather variety that populate message boards and Twitter – should be appreciative of the gains already made under MacIntyre. They should also understand and be fearful that those gains could all be lost by making a fifth coaching change in a decade."

Usually not a good sign when puff pieces about not firing the HC appear...not as bad as the dreaded vote of confidence from the AD, but indicative of some serious heat.

I don't think they support their assertion that other head coaches would not have brought in Leavitt. (At least for the reasons they give - namely HC job security) Other than that, it's a fluff piece really. I agree that coach Mac is trying hard to win. That's not in doubt. We fans seems to wonder if he has the game planning and recruiting chops to go against the rest of the Pac 12. They claim he's middle of the Pac as a coach without any real evidence.

That said, I agree that Mac should be around for another season (along with Leavitt), but he has to keep showing improvements. We've seen intangibles. We've seen some stats to argue over, but he needs to make it more obvious in the W-L column and by attracting some talent many would believe NFL caliber.

Meh. I'm ambivalent about a 4th year of Mac, but I can see the logic in keeping him. Next year he really has no excuses...a favorable home schedule and 4 years of his system...no bowl game next year and things get really hot for Coach Mac.

That looks like something a "rammie/fusker" would write. I do agree that we have to give Mac at least another year though.

"You have to believe that the competent people running things in Boulder understand what a disastrous move that would be."

Boy oh boy would it be nice to hear the author expand a little more on his choice to add "competent" to that sentence.

The author is none other than Mark Knudson. He played college baseball at csu. I thought he had some sort of tie to 'braska, but I guess not.

Mac needs another year. Going through these seasons is frustrating as hell, but he has improved the program enough to earn a year to really put a team on the field that is completely his. I do think coach retention for program stability can be a good thing in some cases and this is one of those cases.

Mac recognized the need and had the guts to make a change at DC. Let's hope he continues to try to improve the coaching staff. If he sits pat this off season, that will be a big red flag to me.

Every opponent CU faces is on Mac's side.

There's your sign.

I understand the argument to keep MacIntyre, but that article was pure crap. The Buffs fans who have stood by this program do not need a lecture from an outsider.

The end is near, now people think Nebraska die hard (and blowhard) Mark Knudson is who we should listen to....

That is your opinion - I do not think he has earned anything yet.

You also seem to think that he inherited a program that was a quick and easy fix. It wasn't. Embree deserved to be let go because it was obvious that he was clueless. Some coaches need time to fix a mess, especially when they are taking over a job in probably the deepest conference in the country. McCartney needed time. Gary Pinkel needed time. You can't just keep hitting the reset button constantly when you don't get instant gratification.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Mac ain't going anywhere after this season. So since it is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.

They guy is a hack and takes shots at CU whenever he can. I saw the article this am and ignored it like I do all of his trash.

Clayton Williams, is that you?

That is once again your opinion. Mine is that he is on very thin ice (3 media articles about what a good guy he is within a week tell me that his supporters are trying to build support for him knowing his situation is not good.)

No where have I ever said this was a quick fix. But I can tell you his approach since day one is not fixing the situation either. People keep comparing it to Embree - Wake up that is not the bar!!! MacIntyre thought he could bring in a bunch of WAC assistants, recruit projects and compete in the PAC 12....he is wrong.

This is where I'm at - won't be terribly disappointed if he's let go or if he's retained. If he gets the full four & is let go, the media and/or prospective hires can't say he wasn't given enough time...

I agree with a lot that you say, but I also think you are being myopic at this point and seeing what you want to see. I'm not comparing him to Embree. I'm stating the reality of what he inherited. Try to find somebody that will argue that he didn't inherit the WORST P5 program in the country. Sorry, that ship takes a while to turn around.

Has MM made mistakes? Yes. Has he improved the program? Yes. Is he continuing to try to improve the program? Yes ( Leavitt). He should absolutely be on the hotseat next year, but it is too soon to burn the bridge.

So true. It all depends on RG and what he sees and is willing to tolerate. I suspect a 4th year is almost certain unless the rails really come off as we hit the gauntlet (I heard Adam or RK say our remaining scheduled is ranked as second toughest in the FBS). If he decides to get a new HC, it will be a much more attractive job than the one we recruited Mac for.

With all of the openings already, and the inevitable coaching carousel that will occur, it seems to me like it is going to be a seller's market come hiring season, and that demand will outstrip inventory. I think that will be an additional reason that Mac will stay around at least one more year.
