First, I want to say that watching your team this year reminds me quite a bit of watching WSU last year. Playing mostly competent, but one mistake here or there seals the fate. I believe the corner will be turned next year. I know that does not make you feel any better, but trust me when I say us WSU folks can empathize in a way most of our Pac-12 brethren can not. We are playing better this year, but it is still a work in progress, and several of our wins have been like last week...last minute drive, all or nothing stakes. This year that has worked out better than last. I see something similar stewing in Boulder.

Anyway, just wanted to stop by and wish you guys luck. For those coming to Pullman, I think you will enjoy the new looks with the football complex done since you were last here. Any questions about the Cougs? Pullman? Fire away!

Sorry, I cam on here a few years ago when we were getting ready to play you guys. I think it was just before the game in Boulder where we scored last minute to pull out an unlikely win. I like chatting up opposing fan base to get a feel for the team. I read this board and it reminds me so much of the WSU boards last year. I will try to be a bit more of a jerk if that would help ;) Whats is the word on the backup QB? He looked pretty good last week from an outsiders perspective. I will post my thoughts on WSU in a few minutes. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to answer them as we go.

I like that he said "something similar stewing in Boulder".

Reminds me of a certain movie thread over in the pub.

what the hell kinda smack talk is this? sadly, we can only take it...not our year to give yet.

There's a big difference between starting vs coming in off the bench in terms of the other team preparing. There's also a big difference between playing at home vs on the road. We like the accuracy of Aspay in the little we've seen, but your guess is as good as ours in terms of what to expect on Saturday.

From what I've seen of WSU this year, it's a lot about your QB having "it" in pressure situations and performing well. I think what's impressed me about you guys this year vs previous years is that your play in the trenches seems a lot better. You can run the ball a little bit and your DL seems to hold up well even against the league's more physical running teams. Good QB play + good line play is a winning formula. The big wildcard, as always, is whether the Pirate will do something unorthodox that backfires instead of working.

Th
all of our conference rivals, except possibly the arizona "schools", are as nice as canadian mounties.

it freaks me out.

That's just because Buffalos are just so damn loveable. HDCoug...you guys better be ready for the new QBs accurate throws. Not a ton of movement in the pocket that I saw, but he's pretty good under pressure, for a youngster. Short throws were very accurate.

Oh, and nice job on beating Fucla last week. Loved it!

FIGHT ON! (sorry...had to)

You haven't found the Fucla and lame duck fans to be the least educated, and most rude/obnoxious in the Pac?

MikeDebone from the Hardcore Huskies board is a tool. How could you forget "5 Reasons" and all of those belly laughs in the control room?

From my perspective the OL is one of our strengths, which may seem odd for as many sacks as we give up. Our best OL has been out the past two games in LT Joe Dahl. That has hurt us, and caused us to change the LT position at halftime of UCLA. The DL is pretty good at getting pressures out of base, and some of the young guys are really starting to show. Hercules Mata Afa is one to watch for. Young and undersized, but plays angry and makes an impact when in. Our overall strength is the passing game, with generally at least 10 different players having a reception each game. QB has been very good overall, but can hold the ball a bit too long at times leading to sacks/hits. He has over 4000 yards with 38 TD vs 8 INT this year. RB is a three headed variety with Wicks being the power guy, Harrington the speed/slasher guy and Morrow more all around. Morrow/Harrington catch way more passes than Wicks as well. Defens has been bend/try not to break for the most part, struggled quite a bit early and has been slowly progressing. UCLA gained a ton of yards but kept settling for FG which cost them in the end. Secondary has been pretty good and tends to keep plays in front of them. The single biggest thinig that has hurt the D all year is QB runs. For some reason they cant contain even a non running QB that takes off (Example Rosen last week with multiple runs including 37 YD TD).

I am interested in what the word about Falk's health is. He took a beating in that UCLA game and had to shake away the stars a few times. With as many times as his head bounced off the turf, I am surprised he stayed in.

TSchekeler: RE:Leach

Like most fans we have our share on both sides of the fense. Pre-season many said he could not win in Pullman. After losing to an FCS school to open it was pure comedy gold on our message boards. Now the pendulum has swung to the point of many thinking this could be the start of a string of 10 plus win seasons. I am sort of in the middle. As much as I have enjoyed winning this year, I am certainly aware of how close we have been to several other losses. I think we can pop up and compete for the North next year since we return basically intact. Outside of the next few years it is hard to tell. If our D really progresses though, look out. We can score now, and if we could ever consistantly slow other teams WSU would be a contender.

Yeah. Kid did not want to come out, but I am glad they took his helmet and made him go through the concussion protocol. He passed that at the half, and came in to be nearly beheaded while sliding feet first. WSU/Leach do not/will not release any information ever on player health, so it is hard to say where he is at since the game. The local paper that covers the Cougs reported on player injury possibilities and has since been threatened with having their access cut off from the program........

The close wins, and loses come when a program is climbing up the ladder. It seems you have now progressed to the close wins, more often than the close loses. It's impressive what WSU can do, at ANY time, since you aren't in a hotbed of high school talent. Leach is capable of building at a lesser recruiting capable school, as he did at TT. The fact that you have won the games that weren't expected to be wins at the start of the year. speaks volumes. Hopefull, your QG can stay healthy, but when you throw a lot, the QB usually takes a lot of hits.

Good luck to both fan bases, but I'll be rooting for the Buff, since I live here now and all. (y)

surprised they didn't call targeting when that happened because the UCLA defender definitely dropped his forearm into the QB's head. I guess we will have to wait and see though. He was wobbly more than once in the 2nd half because of the shots he was taking. Obviously it worked out well enough.

Many Husky fans are this way. You get used to it after a while. They are all still pretty sure it is 1991 and they are nationally relevant....

I know things like that happen, but since Mora has been there, those types of plays happen a lot. Borderline dirty crap. I know things happen. Our punter hit Spruce late on that punt return, but it wasn't intentional. Just a punter, who has very little awareness when trying to make a tackle. Fucla players seem to do that kind of thing regularly. I believe it's an attempt at being "intimidating," but comes off as just plain dirty play.

there were a lot of borderline shots. Think most of them were on the right side of that line, but it was close.

Not an issue here. Atleast not this year. 8 years without a bowl invitation has forced our asshole tendencies to be directed towards ourselves.

The rest of the PAC will be amused by the change in tone once CU turns the corner. The humility imposed by chronic conference losses is killing us.

We feel your pain. Unfortunately some of our fans are already trolling around, but most of us seem to be a bit more level headed IMHO. Just typical fan stuff. UW fans get a bit hysterical if the team does not win 10 games. It is funny because that has been rare for them since the scholarship limits were put in place. They do not do well with a more level playing field.
