“It’s going to be a raucous environment which we haven’t had here at the Coors Events Center,” Colorado head coach Tad Boyle said, talking of the atmosphere he expects on Sunday in Colorado State’s Moby Arena.

The question was if Boyle thinks his team is excited to play in that hostile environment, having not had that at home yet this year. Boyle took the opportunity to address the latter more than the former.

“The fans that are here, thank you and I love you, we appreciate you coming here, but to say I’m disappointed [in attendance]would probably be an understatement,” the head coach admitted.

The cost of tickets has more than doubled in the last three years. Let's not pretend that has nothing to do with it.

  1. Cost increases have been legit.
  2. Last year's performance was, at times, painful.
  3. The OOC slate this year hasn't been as intriguing as in years past. The build-up to the Kansas game in 2013 made even the cupcakes exciting and fun.

Colorado basketball fans are bandwagon fans. Students, especially, and they'll be the last to figure out that the team is good and the games are fun.

#1 - no kidding. It's insane how good of a deal my tickets still are - hearing loss or no.

Yup - We don't have engrained culture of bball in the student body. I don't really blame them... that will take time and winning.

You can blame the cost increase for the lack of season tickets sold but not on the lack of attendance. Tickets sell for peanuts in secondary markets because there is no demand. Hopefully if we beat CSU that will change.

The weather hasn't helped. Tough to get up for dealing with the cold and potentially crappy roads trekking up from Denver for the early slate of teams this year.

They've come a long way though. When I was a student in the dark ages, I'm not sure the vast majority knew we had a team or where games were played.

I would agree with you in general, but it hasn't been my experience this year for some weird reason.

I have 6 tickets, 2 on one side of the court, and 4 on the other. I bought the 4 when we had our first kid because I couldn't get the two seats next to us. Anyway, long story short, my kid is under 3 so she doesn't need a seat yet, so I sell the 4 to friends. But the early games its hard to get them to go, so I half hart try to scalp them on our walk up to the stadium, planning if no one takes them quickly, I would just give them away at the door. I paid $15 ($10+$5 donation), but I have been getting $20-$25 a seat these first few games without any trouble at all.

My guess is once someone commits to wanting to go to a game, $20-$25 doesn't scare them off, but getting them to commit is the hard part, and committing to a full season is even harder unless you are a big fan. The past couple of years were a bit different where it seemed people were begging me to go to the game vs now they will go if they don't have plans.

In the early 2000's I remember showing up 5 min before tip-off and still sitting anywhere I wanted.

I'm thinking back to a thread on AB where some leader in CUnit was being flogged for not getting it together for football games and he was expressing that it takes a lot to keep the momentum up for BBall alone because CU and CUnit haven't attained such a level of persistent excellence that Bball had become an ingrained part of the culture yet.

seems like he was right...
