2016 CFB News & Notes (National)

With Gillam, I think the only way we can look at is that we're holding a lotto ticket. Can't count on it and shouldn't expect it to pay off, but it could end up being worth something more than what you had before and there's the chance of it being a jackpot.

If he ever plays for us again I will consider it a bonus but have resigned myself to him either not playing or playing a limited amount of time.

They should move him outside to maybe reduce the amount of contact he takes from blocking linemen. All linebackers take a lot of hits but his slight build doesn't seem well suited for what happens inside play after play.

His knees and shoulders will take a beating regardless of whether he's inside or outside.

You would hope the coaching staff is kicking the tires on any and all QB transfers.

Kyle Allen would be amazing. Doubtful but amazing. A&M hasn't done a very good job developing qbs after Manziel so I think he will still be a successful quarterback when it's all said and done.

Would take a redshirt in 2016 and then have 2 years remaining to fill the hole once Sefo graduates. He's shown he can sling it like a veteran QB and is more mobile than given credit for though not a dual threat. Their line protection took a big step back this year.

Yep. Should even be the case if we'd won 8 games this year and Sefo was healthy. You always look at upgrading the team's talent and competition -- and especially at QB.

Hopefully he can bulk up to 235

I have no hope for Gillam. He hasn't played well since his true freshman year. He was an average LB the last two years. I think Gamboa is far too slow. I expect Watanabe to work hard and take the starting spot. Gillam was a great story. He would be a great story if he came back but with so many injuries from before he came in to current, I believe it is time to turn the page.

Not sure you can really say he was average this year. You can say he was our best lb until he got hurt. You don't turn the page on talent like that. I wouldn't plan on him coming back and dominating, but I certainly would not turn the page. Id instead give him everything he needed and hope things break our way

We'll know if he's got his fire back or not when we see how he looks. He can't run for another 4 1/2 months. So he should look bulky when he gets to fall camp if he's lifting and doing what he can while doing limited cardio.

2015 goes down as a redshirt year, so he'll be a junior in 2016.

Well, I think he can still make an impact for this defense. As you stated, we'll see come fall whate shape he's in and hopefully he bulks up. Sure sounds like he wants to come back and tear it up. Fingers crossed.

Gillam will have almost a full year to heal, lift, and get bigger. If his body can't handle it after the year off, it just can't handle it. Gonna hope for the best here. Our defense can be completely different with him playing at a high level.

I"m excited about hte defense next season.

I am, too.

I'm a big fan of both Chido and Tedric to have big seasons and also think there's good reason to project improvement across the board with everyone just getting individually better while also knowing the scheme concepts better (and Leavitt knowing better what each individual is capable of doing).

And then if you can throw Gillam & Tupou into the mix for fall camp, that's basically like adding two top-tier free agents if they're right -- one who controls the point of attack and one who is a tackling machine from the 2nd level.

Just kidding. I definitely agree with this.

We saw the defense take a step forward this year, IMO. Problem is, we take a step forward in one area and a step back in another. The day we hit on all cylinders will be a glorious day!

Coleman Key transferring from csu. This is a sign of intelligence. However, I thought he was better that that other rag arm QB they have, Nick something.

Kyler Murray looking to transfer from Texas A&M

At least they still have Kyle Allen hehehe

Either way, their 2nd highest rated commitment for 2016, Quartney Davis, just decommited. What is going on in College Station?
