Is Jones for Watts a good trade?

I know we want both. But if you had to choose one, did we get the right one?

And yes, I know they play different positions. They're both 4* recruits with big time offers from multiple P5 programs.

In the either/or proposition I would say no. We need help in the secondary and it has been reported we have a stud QB waiting in the wings in Montez. Now whether you believe that or not is a different story.

QBs who can make a difference are harder to find. If Jones ends up as good as we though he could be coming out of HS he will make a difference in more games for us than Watts would have doing the same.

QB talent also has a big impact on recruiting for WRs and other offensive players.

We really need both, not just want but if it's one or the other I'm happy with Jones.

A very good QB is the biggest equaliser in sports. A very good QB can mask so many deficiencies and elevate the whole team.

I think the better comparison will be who we end up signing in the secondary.

Hypothetically, yes. Qb has the biggest impact. Ask the Ducks.
In real life lets get both.

You don't take things seriously enough.

Who knows, Jones could end up playing safety.

All I know is I just watched some Davis Webb highlights and the dude is pretty damn good. Webb next year, Montez/Jones/Apsay competition the year after looks pretty good to me.

I disagree. 2 stud QBs >>> 1 stud Safety
You only play one qb at a time, though. If you have two stud QBs, one of them is on the bench.

Overall, I tend to agree that the quarterback will have a bigger impact on the overall fortunes of the team and based on that, I'd choose Jones over Watts in this hypothetical decision. The x-factor, IMO, is that we have Montez, and Jones won't play until 2017. Whereas Watts would provide immediate help at a position of great need right away.

My point is that I'd rather have two stud QBs competing for the starting job (thus meaning that the most important position on the team is in good hands) than one stud Safety.

I know what you meant and I don't disagree. Still, there is now a chance that we will never know how good Montez really is. We can't even play with redshirting one of them.
Don't get me wrong- this isn't a bad problem to have. But it's something to think about, IMO.

I like hypothetical situations. Let's say scholarship numbers are so tight, it comes down to these two scenarios:

A. Davis Webb, Kabion Ento, Drew Davis

B. Sheriron Jones, Johnny Huntley, Pookie Maka

Which scenario do you choose if you are Mike MacIntyre and your job may be in trouble?

We are not in any position to chose, we need 4* talent everywhere. Again, Pitt has more 4* recruits this year alone, then we have had since 2010 combined.

I have been critical of this staff, but credit where it is due, this is a great get. Jones was the 10th best dual threat QB in nation coming out of high school. Probably the best QB recruit since when? Best this century?

Easy duff, whichever option wants to be here more

B. You hope that Montez/Sefo can elevate the team enough to win in 2016 and then you have a potential program changer at QB in 2017-2019. Plus Huntley and Maka could be day one starters themselves.

I'll always take a blue chip QB.

But it's kind of a weird way to think of it. Different positions. Different sides of the ball. Different classes. Jones makes me feel really good, but it doesn't do anything to offset how I feel about losing Watts.

Sherion Jones is probably the best QB on the roster once he arrives on campus.
I have yet to read a Vols fan say something bad about Jones. Talent wise and person wise. Very rare to see that coming from a fan base that just lost a transfer. Not that it means a lot.
