What to expect from Davis Webb (NOTHING - Cal Bound)

The ball is almost always out of his hands in two seconds. That will help a lot. What I really want is that from Sefo.

I'm not defending Sefo, hopefully Webb is a better option. Both Rivers/Rodgers have fantastic footwork and while they throw somewhat at an angle, Webb is straight pushing the ball. I'm not sure you're gonna fix the throwing motion, but hopefully they can get him a bit lighter on his feet.

I actually don't care if Montez is a tad bit better than Webb. I'd rather see Webb start and use the experience and confidence he has to build the program, then break Montez in when it isn't critical. Rather than putting all the pressure on Moptez right away and chance breaking him they way they did Sefo. Ok, maybe they didn't break Sefo, but perhaps more gradual learning time would have helped correct some bad habits and helped him read D's better.

I'm really interested to see what happens. I'm sure this is 90% coachspeak but Kliff Kingsbury said Webb has the potential to be a top 5 overall draft pick. That seems extremely optimistic, but...

1.) He's already graduated which means he doesn't have to focus that hard on academics.
2.) He was benched last season which might stick in his craw a little.
3.) He's probably looking at a future playing on Sundays.

He allegedly has a very high football IQ, has a clear path to the NFL and should be highly motivated to work his butt off and polish his game for scouts. I expect a very driven leader who's coachable and doesn't get frazzled. Running the 2 minute drill he seems really calm and collected. He's not running around screaming at guys, that's not his style.

It is not a secret, Montez has a cannon and is also a mobile QB. He has looked good in practices, spring game and yes, garbage time. He has a presence and views the entire field (vs. Sefo and the first WR he see's is getting the ball). The footage I have seen of Webb is similar to that of Sefo, in that he throws a lot of dump down passes, flares to the backs and a majority of his passes are short. That is Sefo version II. I would prefer to see what Montez can do in meaningful minutes. He has promise, but unless given a chance, we will not know if he is a project, stud or on par with the rest of the QB's on the roster. He does have a lot of tools

Agreed! Except he takes graduate classes but I get your point.

I would prefer that our qb coach not try to "fix" or "develop" Webb.

You realize Montez has never played in a spring game or garbage time of a real game right?
