For those who have seen Peters play, what do we think...strength? handle?

Usually for a frosh I'd say shot, but I think with what CU needs his opportunity is to focus on his handle so he's more of a point than a combo guard

Tory could really help the offense, if he could improve on the "kick out". He does not give the ball up easily once he has it in the post. Upside with Tory next year. Maturity helps.

I think our offense will have some growing pains, at least in how many catch and shoots are available, since I don't think either Wes or Tory will command a double team very often.
 
Gordon needs a pump fake. His shots are always contested. He's a good shooter. No reason he's not more effective on offense.
 
Dom: lateral quickness and explosiveness in general. He needs the rocky 2 training program.

Agreed. All of our guards need to be much better at penetrating on the dribble. It puts so much pressure on the D and opens up a lot of opportunities for teammates. Thats the way we played when we had Alec Burks and Cory Higgins, constant attacking. I bet that is what we go back to with all these wings that we have.

For some, it's more a matter of strength. For others, it's more a matter of handle.

Dom, for example, has a very slick handle. Able to dribble through traffic with his eyes up. But he gets too easily bumped and disrupted off his line, hurting his ability to dish or finish while also leading to some turnovers. With King, you see great one one one ability but against team defensive help he gets stuck and his eyes are on his own dribble too often, doesn't see the help coming, and doesn't see the assist opportunities when teams collapse on him during a drive.

Different issues that lead to similar problems. Another thing - and this can be a focus of the coaches in team drills - is that CU too often tries to advance the ball against pressure with the dribble instead of with passing. Teams that handle pressure well turn that pressure into easy baskets. Pressure against CU this year was too often all reward with no risk because the Buffs didn't get dunks and wide open 3s when they broke pressure.
 
Biggest weakness for this team was guard play. With that in mind-

Dom- Strength, decision making, settling into a support role
Fortune- Handle needs serious work, consistency
Yaz- Learn how to create his own shot and knock down open 3's at close to 40%

Watching various teams in the dance this year, I noticed several guards who were able to beat their man and get to a spot where they could shoot or pass. I want our guards to do that. If strength and/or handles are part of the equation then drills and workouts need to be modified.

I also admired teams with a (or multiple) player who would be isolated against a defender. An explosive, quick first step and the ball would be on the defenders side/hip. The D would have to collapse but the action would result in a pass, foul, or bucket. If strength or other physical training plays a role then I'm all for it.

Watching a team like Wisco, who would not come close to the athleticism of a team like Xavier, would constantly beat them to spots when playing defense or more often than not, come up with the 50-50 loose ball. I don't know if that kind of intensity is top down from the coaches, or just specific players challenging others, but I want our team to look like a pack of hungry hyenas on defense.

I totally agree. The teams that play tough, energetic defense help close the talent gap quickly. I would love to see our guys give, what I consider to be, real effort on defense. Training at altitude, we should be in better shape than our opponents and we should be out-hustling our opponents in every game.
