the sleeping monster that is the Colorado Buffaloes is not yet fully awake but it is in the process of shaking off the hibernation.
the monster spent the off-season getting bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter. the metrics back this up.
yes, the talent is down from its historical highs. yes, the talent gap has narrowed substantially between the Buffs and the ewes.
but, across the board, CU has many more athletes. and, i believe they are properly prepared for game 1. they will be more physical, more confident, and they will execute the schemes that the staff wants to run. there will be errors. the team is very young. there will be growing pains as the monster continues to wake.
let me say this unequivocally, however: the 2007 Buffs have more than enough to lay the wood to the sheep.
CU will win and there won't be any doubt at the end. i suspect we've got some heartbreak ahead of us this season, but not in game 1.
GO BUFFS!
