WBB '17 MN PF Annika Jank (Signed to COLORADO)

Oops- I was too slow and put the info I could find out about her in another general thread.

Moving what I wrote to this thread-

It looks like the Buff women bball team has a new 2017 commitment in 6'2" or 6'3" forward Annika Jank, from Edina High School and the Minnesota Metro Stars from the Twin Cities area.

Welcome and congrats to her committing to join the Buffs!

What I could find via quick google search-
*** Listed as a power forward in from her line in this database- http://www.northstargirlshoops.com/2017-player-database

Question and answer with her here (says she can play either forward position)- http://www.5statehoops.com/page/show/1766076-annika-jank

Per maxpreps, her team was #14 in Minnesota last year. It also looks like, as with 2 other current Buffs from Minnesota, Anna Pfefferle (volleyball) and Monica Burich (basketball), Ms. Jank is at minimum a 2 sport athlete, playing both basketball and volleyball for the Edina Hornets. ( http://www.maxpreps.com/high-school...n)/girls-basketball-winter-14-15/schedule.htm )

Found what looks like maybe her scoring stats (ONLY) for last season. Looks like she averaged ~15 points per game, obviously a good number for a sophomore.- http://www.mngirlsbasketballhub.com/roster_players/6765872

Looks like this site has her ranked as the #2 recruit out of Minnesota for the 2017 class- http://www.breakdownsportsusa.com/page/show/445397-girls-player-rankings-free-

Not the direct #CUin17 hashtag that some of the other CU sports use, but I assume (mainly based on the timing) this tweet may be women's basketball (more inspirational) way of confirming they got a commitment???

There was also this tweet yesterday Maybe another version of the #CUin17??

I think he is the coach of the frontcourt players.

I missed this. Hope Annika continues to improve in her junior and senior years. Can't wait for her to arrive on campus.

So here is a post player for next year's class. She is following Lappe and the team on Instagram and Twitter. Hope she comes. We need a tall player.

She may be tall, but I don't think she is going to play in the post. She's more of a 4 or perimeter player from what I can gather about her.

Still she does seem to fill a need.

Curious. Is this a case where the player is being encouraged to look or a case where the player is legitimately wanting to get to know the new coach?

I think it is a wise decision any recruit should consider when the coach is fired. I understand that we as fans like to say that they are committing to the school and not the coach, but that isn't really true.

Saw on twitter that she has done OVs to ASU and CU, is visiting Arizona (where the coach who originally recruited her to CU now is on staff) this weekend. She is also looking at Missouri and Wisc and is open to other offers.

I hope the new staff can do something about the class of 2017. Right now CU WBB has 0 verbals for that class. And they graduate 3 players.... all playing at small forward or power forward. If the only addition to the front court in the incoming classes for 2016 and 2017 is the gal from the UK, they will be VERY thin up front.

Agree to some point. In the past I would have argued that the road to the top 10 would include having traditional power forwards and posts that are talented. Now I am so sure. IF a team can find a player 6-2 or better at the 5 who can defend, rebound and be a threat to post up and score then I am not sure that a traditional power forward is needed. Having said that, it's not easy to successfully to recruit talented post players as there are so few. I don't expect that CU will find one (at least not in the US) for '17. As someone else has pointed out, most of the top talent for '17 have developed relationships with coaches already.

The good news is that CU looks to be proactive in the class of '18 with three offers to talented bigs. let's hope that they can land a few of them.

I'm glad Annika looked around at a number of schools and decided that CU was still the right place for her. Good job by the new coaching staff.
