Which position group is the most solid?

Which position group do you feel the best about after the spring game?

Which one are you most concerned about?

For me, I feel very good about the RBs after today. Everybody looked pretty solid. I am very concerned about defensive line. Slow start off the snap and not a very good rush.

For me the most solid is RB on offense, and DB on defense.

I'm most worried about WR on offense (We need playmakers. Not enough separation from most of the WRs), and LB on defense.

Nelson Spruce never had much seperation but he knew how to use his body to shield defenders. The Buffs will add Winfree and 2 other guys and have 11 WRs on schollie.

Give me WR and RB. DBs have 2 NFL level guys and after them is a question. The offensive skill guys have PAC12 caliber players 3 deep.

After spending time out in the sun at the spring game yesterday I would say that the RB group, seems in the best shape. Corners seem to be in the next best shape. The offensive line struggled at first, but looks like they are coming around.

Positions I am most worried about. Oh where do I begin. First and foremost is linebacker, some of the guys playing yesterday were really struggling. Hansen in particular looked like he was a little banged up, but mostly just looked like he didn't want to be anywhere close to a football field. The lack of overall team size is still concerning. Someone PLEASE get these guys connected with some good pharma between now and the fall or this team is in real trouble again.

RB looks like the best group with the most depth, but I think we already knew that.

WR is going to be fine, especially if Winfree lives up to the hype, but I liked what I saw from Ross on those quick, underneath routes. Ento was pretty meh yesterday, IMO.

OL looked alright to me with the exception of a few plays but I thought Montez held the ball way too long most of the time, which did them no favors.

Defensively, the DBs looked solid but like others have said, could be worrisome if any starters go down.

I wasn't as concerned with the interior of the defensive front 7, as I was with the guys out on the edge. Too many gashers off tackle for my liking.

Overall, I'm no more encouraged or discouraged by what I saw than before yesterday. Also, a reminder that we're looking at 4 new projected starters (2 on each side of the ball) in the Fall, at 4 key positions, than what we had on the field yesterday.

Yeah Ento disappointed definitely. You could tell the qbs had a lot of trust in him as they threw it up to him a couple times but he didn't make the play. Maybe just first time jitters.

Since Montez can't really run in a scrimmage I don't really see the issue with him holding the ball. It's practice.

Our starting secondary might be the best we have had in a long time. Even better than last year. Thompson, Chido, and Oliver are flat out studs.

I really liked what I saw out of the RB's. They all seemed fast and made quick decisions. I think we have some playmakers here.

As I said in the other thread, its hard to tell much else as everything was extremely vanilla.

Hansen?

Defense:

Starting secondary is really damn good.

I also like the backup safeties with Laguda and Fisher. Freshmen need to shore up the group in the fall by bring CB depth.

The front 7 is going to be the big question mark. Not too many answers until the fall. A group that included Tupou, Gillam, Lewis and Samson is very different than what we saw on Saturday.

The guys we're counting on looked pretty good. I like Franke a lot. Mathewes and Coleman can play and would improve depth so much if they can each add around 15 lbs for the season and get into that 255-265 range. Liking what I saw from Gilbert and Falo on the outside rush. McCartney obviously takes that to the next level once he's back. Next for depth looks like Trent Headley to me, who is a very good walk-on I think will earn a scholarship. His future, along with Shaver (who also looks good) may be on the inside. Might be that Gillam plays some in space at OLB this year if Lewis earn a lot of snaps to give the Buffs additional depth.

Offense:

QB is a problem. Becomes a strength if Webb confirms commitment and is here in June. Montez is a year away, imho.

RBs are deep and all the guys can play. Not sure I saw a feature back on Saturday. Adkins has what it takes, but I don't trust him to stay healthy and dialed in. Dino is raw, but can eventually be that guy. Carr's a burner. Lee is also really fast. Lindsay brings a ton of toughness and emotional energy while seeming to have taken a step forward on reading the blocking and getting upfield.

FB/TE should be productive. Irwin was moving well. Frazier is an absolute load who can do a lot of things well (played with his hand on the ground a lot Saturday). Bounds should give some depth. Still hoping for Keeney to develop because he's one hell of a great target who can stretch the seam.

WR was a mixed bag. I trust Shay Fields. He'll have a great year. Ross looked fantastic and if this offense passes for 4,000 yards this year (TTU had 5k last year), I expect Ross to have 1,000 of them. Ento and Jan are big targets, which is nice. Both flashed a bit and looked lost a bit. MacIntyre will be good at finding holes in zone coverage, but needs work against man coverage (didn't do a good job of driving into his man and using contact to create separation yesterday). The arrival of Juwann Winfree along with Huntley and Julmisse will potentially turn this into a dynamic group. It's not there yet, though.

OL is a work in progress. Seemed a little off kilter all day. The younger OLs look a lot more athletic than the vets. Hard to tell much with the OL when Irwin and Huckins aren't playing, though. Those guys coming back as plus player starters would change everything. Irwin looked like he was moving well when he ran over to jumped on his brother to celebrate a good play, so fingers crossed. I also saw Chance Lytle and Hunter Vaughn in the practice facility. These are a couple of massive human beings that I can't wait to see after they grow up in the S&C program.

Special Teams:

P should cause no worries. Kinney is really, really good. Huge leg.
K was a confidence boost with Diego seeming to have fixed the mechanical issue from the hash he had last season.
LS wasn't something I noticed, so it was good.
Returns are something that will be figured out in fall camp. With guys like Ronnie Blackmon coming in and the depth of speed guys at RB, it should be a dynamic group.

Make no doubt about it, if Webb doesn't end up signing, we are in big time trouble at QB with a hurt Sefo and not ready Montez.

After slow start (1-6) Montez finished up decently at 11-15; so not horrible. Gerkhe looked as good as I've seen him look. QB is not a star position in this offense.; more game management, with short passes and the occasional downfield throw to keep the "D" honest. Not too worried even if Webb flakes. RBs looked much more polished; Whoosis on Pac Network kept raving about how they set up their blocks and showed patience---Hagan seems to have made a real difference. DL was playing to play comfortably in JL's system, not kill people; no stunts, twists or anything to give away secrets. Essentially as vanilla as possible ; helped to let the OL develop some timing and coordination against a basic D, which they did as time wore on. Didn't hurt to feature Ross either. Kid needed the confidence. He showed last year he could get separation, he just couldn't close the deal on a catch. Need him in this offense.

No, they are not! Not in a great position, but Gerkhe can start and Montez will be fine. Face it , he had to learn a new "O" as much as everybody else. MM is putting no pressure on him with his statements, but I sense the kid can play and will improve further over the summer. Everybody's gotta get that first start sometime. Nobody comes in with two years experience in Pac play except those who have had it, even Webb.

Look around this site, almost everybody agrees the secondary is a strength. So Montez's facing good Pac 12 secondary every day in practice. Couldn't have said that before.

I get the sense that you actually believe what you write.

If you are hanging your hopes on walk on linebackers then you will be disappointed. We are thin right now but hopefully we are healthy by the Fall.

CU good to go at quarterback with a hurt guy who took a giant step back last year, a guy who has taken 0 snaps at the college level, and Jordan Gehrke? OK, then. Let's save this one for December 2016, shall we?

Something is up here, i'm thinking it rhymes with creaTINI.

Anyway, montez is not ready, and gerkhe, you must be kidding. MM has to make a bowl this season, this program needs a bowl game. Your scenario has no hope of that happening.
