ESPN PAC-12 Blog: Top 10 players on Colorado depth chart

ESPN rank:
1. Chidobe Awuzie
2. Phillip Lindsay
3. Tedric Thompson
4. Shay Fields
5. Rick Gamboa
6. Kenneth Olugbode
7. Derek McCartney
8. Alex Kelley
9. Sefo Liufau
10. Sean Irwin

I need to think about this a bit, but that would not be my Top 10 for 2016.

The top 4, I can get behind. After that... ehhhhh

Easily in my Top 10 are 3 guys who are returning from injury or suspension.

Jeromy Irwin, Addison Gillam and Josh Tupou are all in the Top 6 if they are right.

The arrivals of Webb, Winfree, Lewis, Tupou and Gillam potentially add 5 players to this top 10.
Jeromy Irwin too. Not a bad list from a casual writer not too involved in our program but I think we all know our top 10 has potential to be drastically better and different!

Only thing I agree with...as I think everyone here would...is Chido being #1. Dude is awesome!

Not defending the specifics of the list (except #1 for sure), but I think it is fair that they did not include players who didn't play last year for CU (or much) in this kind of list.

When you think about it, it is kind of sobering. I would have McCartney higher but it shows we do not have many elite players. Some of the new comers better be able to contribute.

So, pick the 10 best players who will likely play this season (I selected those I think would make the biggest impact if they played the way they can at their best):

1. Chido
2. Webb
3. Adkins
4. Tupou
5. Gillam
6-10. Entire OL

Mine would look something like:

1 Chido
2 Winfree
3 Thompson
4 Webb
5 Bisharat
6 Tupou
7 McCartney
8 Carr
9 Gillam
10 Lindsay

Surprised at how little run Jordan Carrell is getting. That dude can play.

Starting DL of Carrell-Tupou-Samson could be friggin' nasty this season.

I'd say by years end, a realistic top ten or fifteen in no particular order would be

Gillam
Tupou
Thompson
Awuzie
McCartney
Irwin
Kelley
Fields
Adkins
Webb
Lee
Winfree
Carrell
Kafovalu
Moeller

I love the "slight" qualifier everyone makes with Adkins.

You know, this season if Adkins has his head right, gets himself into peak shape for fall camp, plays and practices with focus, fights through injuries, avoids serious injury, and is willing to give himself up to pass block and gain that extra yard... he could be really damn good.

It's a real qualifier, and it's an unfortunate fact. I struggle to see another true P5 starting RB on the team so far, unless, as possible there's one sitting on the bench or is incoming as a new guy. Lindsey has a lot of moxie but he's an FCS player.
