How will the Buffs do in the Draft?

Most of the ranking have the Nembot, Spruce, and Crawley as 7th round picks at best. It pisses me off that former Buff Alex Lewis is projected as a 4th round pick.

I could see Spruce and Crawley making it...Nembot to me seems like he'd make it purely on his size and strength....his technique didn't seem that great (not that I know a lot about these things.)

Pretty clear why the Buffs have been bottom dwellers for the past decade....no real talent....great character and effort guys...but no real talent. Let's hope that we are reaching the end of the FA or 7th round picks in the draft...

I think Spruce will go higher than the 7th. Nembot is viewed as a major project but high upside. I think he'd be a steal in the 7th. Crawley has everything you want in an NFL CB, except the film showing ball skills and awareness. I think he could go higher solely based off his physical attributes, though.

Crawley will be drafted first out of the three. I'm not convinced Nembot will be drafted, but I expect him to make a team in the fall.

I think we need to trade up and get a QB. But not that Goff kid. He sucks and anyone chooses to play QB at Cal sucks too.

I think Spruce will go higher than the 7th. Somewhere in the 2x4 rounds. Solid pickup for whoever gets him.

Spruce should go first of the three, he will be a contributor to an NFL team who I expect to have a solid career. Crowley with the right team could become a solid NFL player because of his athletic ability, he has to get the right coaches and system.

Nembot will likely end up on a practice squad for a couple years because of his size and athletic ability. I would be surprised though if he turns into an NFL starter, he doesn't have the footwork to be an NFL quality pass blocker and I don't see that changing.

wow. That would be cool if the colleges could mess with the draft that way. If an NFL team picks Spruce, they can have Bell and Mosley too along with a pick to named later.

CU is #19 in NFL drafts in the last 20 years...with the last 10 sucking so bad shows me from where we have dropped.

#22 all time.

Would it be easier being a fan of team that had no history or tradition? Sometimes I think it would be...but I'm proud to be a Buff!!!

I hope you are right but I doubt that Spruce goes that high. I think most teams view him as a good college player with limited pro potential. I actually think Crawley will go first - he has the measureables for the position and has played well against good competition. Nembot can run block but pass blocking is a big question...he will make someone's practice squad.

Hello. My name is Spiff and I have a problem. I can't engage in a discussion about Nelson Spruce, because all I want to do is make tree puns. I should be hit with a 2x4.

I legitimately think Crawley could go as high as the 4th round. Of course, he could also not get drafted... I think Spruce goes in 5-6 and Nembot goes in 7th or FA. I'm really hoping all three get their names called. While frustrating at times, I'm happy that Crawley and Nembot came through CU. Spruce produced a lot - shame if his game tape doesn't get him drafted.

It will be nice to find out if Nembots problem was poor instruction or just him.

Game tape is the number one thing that NFL GMs should be going off, IMO. Measureables are great, but if you can't play, they don't mean anything. Crawley just never seemed to effectively locate the ball in the air to make a play. His coverage was tight much of the time, but guys still caught the ball on him because he couldn't locate. That's my biggest criticism of his game.

Spruce is the opposite. He is technically sound in just about every aspect and catches the ball extremely well, but he doesn't have the physical measurebles that NFL teams want.

As mentioned above Crawley ball skills are going to hurt him big time. I hope he gets drafted, but wouldn't say he will be the first.

I think Nembot goes first. His size, strength and intelligence make him pretty attractive to a confident coach.

6'1" 205 is NFL WR size, his hands are big, reach is good, strength is fine. The only measurable that is lacking is straight ahead speed and in that area he is as fast as a lot of successful NFL receivers. The speed will keep him out of the early and middle draft but I think somebody takes him and is glad they did.

Crowley's athletic ability could get him a year or two just because some coach thinks he can fix the deficiencies you pointed out. To stick though he is going to have to be a significant contributor on special teams.

I am curious, what measurables do NFL teams feel he does not have?
Size? Paul Richardson was shorter yet was drafted early.
Jumping ability? His college career is loaded with red zone TD's where he went up and snatched the ball for TD's.
Speed? He is definitely not a burner in timed 40's or shuttle. But he seems to be able to separate on game days, despite double teams.

Someone stated is perfectly earlier: Someone is going to be very happy drafting Spruce! You don't become the All-Time Pac 12 leader without being able to play at an elite level.

Brandon Stokley was shorter, Ed McCaffrey was taller. Neither had blazing speed. I would think Spruce can develop into a WR somewhere between the careers of those two. Perhaps I am bias and don't see it, but I see Spruce as a #2 or #3 WR for years in the NFL.

Straight line speed. explosiveness are the two big things and he does not have the height to out jump defensive backs....I think you exaggerate when you say he is loaded with Red Zone TDs where he out jumped defenders for the ball - maybe once or twice but he was not used that way.
