Kennedy Leonard on u20 FIBA roster

Upon further review, it's the U20 B division Euro championship. I have no idea what that is or why she's playing for GB, but good international experience anyways.

I was puzzled by this too. I checked her bio and it says her mother was born in Scotland. It looks like about half of the candidates for this Great Britain U20 team are from the USA. Obviously having one parent from the UK qualifies her. Regardless, hope she makes the team. The international experience would be terrific for her.

I thought I was reading it wrong when I saw the words United Kingdom. I do hope she makes the team.

Rules for eligibility for a country's team in international play are weird in basketball and soccer.

It was once said of the Irish men's soccer team, that if either of your parents sat next to an Irishman on a bus, you're eligible to play for Ireland!

Yeah. Becky Hammon played for the Ruskies in the Oly's. As far as I know, she had no ties to Russia.

Her ties to Russia: The US National team had never invited Becky to try out for the US team. She played, as an American, on a pro team in Russia. They liked what she brought to the game and felt she could improve their national team. So the Russians invited her to apply (expedited of course) for citizenship and then join their national team. She did.

I have never understood why USA Basketball never invited Becky Hammon to try out. I also never understood the grief she got for playing for Russia. USA Basketball didn't give her the chance to play for the US in the Olympics, but Russia did.

"Southlake's own Kennedy Leonard, a guard on Colorado University's women's basketball team, was honored in March by the Pac-12 media for her stellar freshman season. The former two-time district MVP continues her successes at the collegiate level, starting 28 of 29 games, and averaging 11.8 points per game (second on her team) and a team-high 4.7 assists per game.

According to Colorado University, her 135 assists this season rank fourth all-time amongst first-year players. We caught up with Leonard about her first year at Colorado and her future aspirations.".......more

With any luck she could play with her new teammate, Eleanor Jones.

When Eleanor Jones sees Kennedy pass the ball she'll be grateful she's coming to CU.
