Very Pleasant Call From CU Athletics

Today I got an unexpected phone call from CU. Normally the calls I get are from undergrads in a noisy boiler room soliciting a donation. This was a nice call from a woman in a quiet background (I almost didn't believe it was from CU without the noisy boiler room background hum). She said she was from CU athletics and wanted to thank me for my season ticket renewal and occasional hoops single game purchases, and to check to see if there were any issues that I had with the whole ticket buying experience, and to ask if I had any questions or other things I needed to discuss with them. I waited for what seemed to me to be an inevitable request for a donation, but it did not come. It was really just a "we want to make sure everything is okay with your experience as a season ticket holder" call.

I think this can be put down to Rick Geoege (or one of his underlings) pushing customer service, and color me impressed.

That's great to hear.

For most businesses, I'd be critical of not using an opportunity to upsell when speaking to a customer. But in this case, I see a lot of value in simply taking the time to say "thank you" since being a college sports fan is such an emotional connection and a having a sense that you're part of a community. Every interaction shouldn't be a direct effort to get a larger share of our sports entertainment dollars.

Got a similar call for my brick purchase and was worried about an upsale moment or further donations but again it never materialized. This has RG written all over it and kudos to him and his team!

Hmmm. A CU Brick would make a great Father's Day gift.

I just got a call, too. Thanking us - Allbuffs - for being ticket holders. Very cool.

That's weird, my call had someone breathing heavy on the other end of the line, followed by asking me what I was wearing.
