Today's Big Ten TV deal assures it. Things are going to get crazy next summer.

And the new C-USA tv deal that cut each member's annual media check from $1MM to $300k assures that any program in the G5 will take just about any deal offered to join a P5 conference.

Thank goodness Larry Scott is holding firmly onto the Pac-12 Network and refusing to monetize it or to get any substantial coverage for people that actually want to watch Pac-12 sports. God forbid he do anything to catch up with the Big 10 which took another giant leap ahead.

If the chatter is true about Notre Dame finally being ready to go to the ACC as a full member in football, then that will cause a run toward 16-team conferences. I think that's the big next step that would need to happen for the dominoes to start falling.

so do we call Texas and Oklahoma first or do we let them come to us

I believe the deal was for 6 years which could put the changes a year or two out but yes, the race to 16 will quickly heat up. Rather get in now, work it to the Pac's advantage and be selective. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

If and when the super conferences happen, hopefully Great Scott & the rest of the P-12 bigwigs will make the right choices. Allowing Texass into the PAC 12, would be like trying to mix oil with water.

Just don't dilute with the unnecessary schools. Really there is no need for any more schools out west. Focus on a new time zone if you have to expand. Pull in Texas if you can, but only if they are equal partners with the rest.

Really there is no compelling reason for the PAC to expand unless it is into new time zones. The PAC already has the entire western US locked up.

Consolidation WILL happen. There are 5 conference that matter. 1 of those conferences is extremely unstable. When it collapses, those programs will be absorbed into the other 4. It is not hard to see the writing on the wall.

Personally would like the Pac-12 to grab KU, KSU, OU, and OSU. Would not be upset with TTU or TCU either. Avoid UTerus at all costs, but there are a few decent programs still out east.

I fail to see how anything the Big 10 does forces the PAC 12's hand.
I follow conference realignment news closely and I'm not seeing it either.

I think realignment will continue (it hasn't stopped for more than a five years since the 1950's), but I'm not seeing how the B1G's recent TV deal is necessitating near term changes in the PAC or ACC (these are the three conferences that I follow most closely).

Allbuffs seems to be taking a different perspective than what I'm reading elsewhere, which doesn't mean AB is wrong.

Well the biggest thing for the Pac is getting a deal with DTV done without giving up an equity stake and fixing the solvency issues of the Pac-12 network. That will show the total amount we are behind the Big-10 and then they would have to move from there. Any expansion without a team from Texas is completely worthless. I am not saying this has to be UT but there are 4 huge markets in Texas that need to be added in order to make financial sense.

From a $$$ standpoint, adding UT would be fantastic. From an enjoyment standpoint, adding UT would be pretty ****ty. Granted UT would not be able to come in and be the alpha dog in this conference. No way does UO, USC, or UCLA allow that. UT would have to agree to be an equal member to gain admission, regardless of how big their ego is.

I suppose the only thing that would make me feel somewhat comfortable, is that in a pod system, we would only have to deal with the shorthorns once every 4 years or so.

Maybe I'm saying this because dealing with KU hoops fan on an annual basis again would suck, but I agree KU to the Big10 would make the most sense.

Adding more schools out west wouldn't move the needle much, and there are only 4 schools you could really consider anyway: New Mexico, Boise St., UNLV, and SDSU, and only because of they're tv markets which isn't a lot. I'd much prefer this option over being in a conference with Texas again, but the Pac-12's wallet would prefer Texas.

There is zero chance that any Pac 12 expansion would end up being 4 G5 programs that add little to no financial upside. I could see Boise and a tiny sliver of hope for UNLV, given its location, but no shot for NM or SDSU.
