Personality as a barometer for a coach? Mike Riley

I don't really think that is true, Nebraska is having all of their elite California recruits out for that game to show against a west coast team.
Yeah, and getting Oregon early this year, in Lincoln, is a perfect platform for them. I respect Riley as a coach more than Helfrich. I give them a chance to upset the Ducks, which is less of an upset than people will think. Ducks are steadily moving backwards..... Lack of leadership has to be a concern when you import a SR QB each year from a lower division to take over in the summer. Nebraska will get a lot of run out of being able to expose the Ducks.

I don't know, Oregon still has unbelievable speed which is going to hurt Nebraska a ton and Riley is the definition of a "meh" coach. Definitely hoping Oregon pours it on.

I think it's context. His results at OSU were only Meh if you've never been to their campus. The guy would have won big at USC. Just opinions though....

He was a very good OC at USC about 20 years ago, but his aw shucks Gomer Pyle personality wouldn't play well in a major media market. I think he learned his lesson on that as the HC of the Chargers. Corvallis and Lincoln are good fits for him.

His aw shucks Gomer Pyle personality aren't playing well in Lincoln, either.

Ha, fair enough, although every nebraska fan I know (yes, sadly I know multiple) really doesn't like either... Pretty much the most polar opposite to Pelini they could have hired.

We should probably move this discussion to another thread.

My general belief is that fans and players will embrace any personality as long as he wins. Which usually means he owns who he is and doesn't try to be someone else.

Saban? Asshole.
Urban? Full of ****.
Miles? Grass eating weirdo.
Harbaugh? Self-promoting cocky douchenozzle.
Shaw? Low key cerebral.

Etc., etc.

Riley is great, the non CEO a hole coach. Urban is an a hole, who runs the kids til they puke just to satisfy his position. Rare birds are successful and not Frank Cush jrs.

Yeah, if winning isn't the goal than Riley is the better coach than Myers every day of the week.

Maybe given the resources Riley could do as well as Urban. Maybe Urban would be considered meh if he labored at Oregons little brother?
