HCMM's pre-game speech: "You're my dream"

Say what you want about him being less than cool, but there's no arguing about how much he cares about his players. I maintain that players don't care about whether their coach is "cool". What they want is him to be genuine, honest, and have their backs. MacIntyre is all that and more.

Thanks for sharing that. I'd be the first to say even a coach who cares that much about his players but can't win games can't be our coach. But if he can win 6+ games this year while maintaining that type of attitude toward his players . . . well then, damn I'd say we've got ourselves an answered prayer.
Players can get their cool from Chev and their care from MM--I'm good with that. Love the way MM can be emotional. Supporting his players while sustaining a 'let's-go-kick-their-asses' atmosphere.

mm isn't the most media savvy coach we have had, but he's got heart. and he shows he's a genuine guy.

i wasn't thrilled with him bringing his staff with him from the junior leagues... i didn't think they were ready and there were no big time recruiters on the staff. he's corrected that. he's built the program so far in a honorable way. rg and the school have given him the support to move the needle forward. i really want him to succeed and be the guy. this is a big year for this staff. they know they need to make some real noise. they clearly believe they have the bodies to do something this year too. this speech shows his heart and his belief.

I wish you guys all the success in the world... except for when you play us... but seriously... MM is a huge dork. The players realize this.., buy in at your own peril... this is a long season.

And Graham is a Diva and Mora is an asshole. As long as the players can trust the coach has their best interests that is all that matters.

Except that you are my dream is ridiculous and silly and well kinda gay... not that there is anything wrong with that,

He knows what buttons to push with his team and what connects with them. It worked, it was different for sure but appeared to be 100% genuine which I am sure resonated with the players. He is their coach, not their friend. As long as he connects with them and gets the most of out of them, then who cares if he is a dork?

Interesting parallels converging. Bill mac was/is a man of conviction and was certainly not considered "cool" by the pop standards of the 80's. People with shared common goals respond positively to truth, honesty and intent regardless of their age or how the message is conveyed. Dorky or cool does not matter, genuine is the key as echoed by all of the posters responding to this thread. Nice thread buffnik.

MM may be a slow learner, regarding his staff, but a learner he is. He's coming up the curve and hopefully shows enough progress this year to be retained.
