What program is most likely to hire Art Briles as HC?

Briles says he will be coaching next year.

So, let's say that's true.

We all know that he wins. We all know the baggage and the media ****storm that hiring him would cause.

Which means the school that hired him would have to be so desperate for football relevance that it would say "totally worth it".

So what program fits that bill of being both morally bankrupt and possibly in desperate straits by season's end?

I agree with slider, pretty much any school in the SEC, add in Penn St., FSU, Clemson and UNC from the ACC. UT probably would as well. There are several "we'll do practically anything to win" institutions. My guess is he probably will be coaching again. If Bobby Petrino can get a job, so can Briles.

I think we can rule out FSU and Clemson, as this list should be limited to teams that will actually be looking for a new HC at season's end, and I think Penn State is probably the last program that would accept a media **** storm around the football program... for obvious (or not so obvious, I guess) reasons.

No big time programs but I would say teams like Mississippi St., Kentucky, Arizona St., Kansas, Missouri. Basically a team that needs a big name to recruit.

They, and likely other schools, would have rehired/hired JoePa after a year or two off if he was still around. Some programs just don't care. They would likely eat the 6-10mo media circus if it meant winning games.

I think it depends on what openings are available. I think Houston is a possibility if Herman takes a job elsewhere. Texas A&M is also a possibility if Sumlin is shown the door.

And Southern Cal is an obvious choice. A guy like Briles wouldn't even be the most disgusting person in town.

Those are the big-ish schools that I could see taking him on. Outside if them, somebody like Memphis, Tulsa, UTEP or NMSU would be a good spot for him to revive his career.

Petrino just crashed a bike and got caught in an affair with an employee. That's not even on the radar for what Briles was embroiled in.

I'm going to say that coach Briles is wrong. Leavitt doesn't have a (head) coaching job. Barnett doesn't have a (coaching) job. Paterno doesn't have a coaching job - he just gets to clean Satan's locker room shower. No way Briles will get one.

I'm thinking ASU if Graham crashes and burns this year. Hell, they hired Dennis Erickson before Graham. Would be a great fit, actually.

I thought about them. I think that they would love to have him, but would think hiring him would look bad to the B12, so they'll pass. Once they get it through their heads that the B12 isn't going to invite them, they'll be free to hire a guy like Briles.
Think about it, Briles and Eustachy on the same campus. Awesome.

Houston? You know he left there for **** Bailer right? No way he goes back to UH.

No way Briles goes to UT. There is baaad blood between UT & Briles. The article says Briles just passed his ballot off, but everyone familiar with it knows that's not the case. Apparently it goes back to something that happened while Briles was at UT.

I still say T A&M, hear he's an aggie supporter.
I wouldn't think A&M is that desperate though. They can still attract a great coach outside of Briles. Nebraska, on the other hand has struggled to get a guy who will commit to being in a terrible recruiting area in a conference with no connections to Texas, California or Florida.

Briles to the nubs would be a perfect storm of hate.

The Nubs wouldn't be a surprise and yes they'd be able to recruit Texas with him. That's assuming that his connections don't buy what's been said.
