All things positive thread - FSU 09-15-07

Talk about what you LIKED about the game last night here and what we can take away from it for the future. :gobuffs:

I only got to see the 2nd half

a) Cody Hawkins - the kid will be a good QB in due time and played well when you consider the circumstances.

b) Jordon Dizon - STUD!

c) According to the depth chart only 2 starters on Defense are seniors

Dizon and Wheately.

I like that this team is playing hard, and not giving up. That is a good sign.

Offensively they don't look all that bad, but they are making too many mistakes right now. That should improve as the season goes on, especially in games where they're not so overmatched as they have been in the past two games.

Defense is playing tough, and they need to keep that up.

Love that you put up a positive thread, Jensie!

Here is my list:

* Little Hawk - he has some well delivered passes. Tends to be accurate, and has more of an arm than I first thought. In his first year, with a developing line and in need of some recievers, he is doing very well.
*McKnight - he is emerging as a go-to guy.
* O-line - gets a nod as a positive accomplishment because you can see the definite improvement that they are making.
* Dizon / Hypolite / T-Wheat - they rock.
* Watchability - Even to the end, I believed we could win. Clearly the Buffs thought that, too, because they simply will not give up.
* Defense - a HUGE improvement over game 1. Much more penetration. Keep it going D!

D played lights out
Cody showed poise
Black-out was pretty cool
Students were awesome
FSU fans were good (not obnoxious loud mouthed assholes)
Great to see everybody at the gater (thanks Sacky and HF)

My heart says 11-2 but my head says something else. It is still work in progress so I was not terribly disappointed at the game. I had a blast in the student section all night, stayed till the final play.

My hunch about the OL is that Hawkins will start rotating them once conference play starts. According to the notes from last nights game, the same 5 guys have started every single game so far, with a total snap of 212. That's just crazy.

Last night was George Hypolite's turn to shine. He had an outstanding 4th quarter, getting some nice penetration and a couple of drive killing sacks. Dizon and Wheatley have been dependable in every game so far. It's good to see Ryan Walters, Benjamin Burney and Jeff Smart in on some tackles. The defense is starting to gel as a team. It looked less like the Jordan Dizon show and more like a team effort. FSU QB Weatherford failed to present a deepball threat, and with the exception of Antone Smith's 36 yard TD, the FSU running game was held in check.

On the offensive side, for the 3rd game in a row, Scotty McKnight is the Buffs most reliable and productive receiver. Who'd have thought Scotty would be the leading WR coming out of camp?

C-Hawk pitched his first 300+ yard game. It's been a while since a CU quarterback has done that.

On special teams, Terrence Wheatly is a decisive kickoff return man. It's nice to see him catch the ball and charge ahead for over 20 yards. Punt returners take note.

Once again, CU was penalized fewer times and for fewer yards than their opponent. When CU shoots itself in the foot, it's not with penalites. 7 for 35 isn't bad.

On TV - the black out looked okay. It would have been better if the fans had more to cheer about. The blonde coed flipping the bird on national TV really stood out with that black background. But that was understandable, and even kind of funny. On the other hand, Bowden blowing his nose into his hanky on three consequitive headshots was just gross.

Shoulder to Shoulder

D looked good, Hypolite is a beast.
O still showing signs of potential...if they can pull all the pieces together they'll be quite good.

Tailgate was fun! Thanks HF and Sacky! And big thanks to all the folks who chipped in for the Allbuffs season tickets!!

The good thing is, we could have gotten beat by more had the D not stepped up and help FSU on all of those 3rd downs where they had to settle for field goals. The D, I thought, played great yesterday, Big George and Dizon held that team together yesterday, they are both going to put up HUGE numbers this year. I also thought RJ Brown has been stepping up and playing very well also.

The WR played 100% better than the ASU game. Josh Smith had a decent game with a great 20+ yd reception along the sideline. He will become an amazing player if he keeps doing what he has been doing.

I liked that we boo'ed when the fsu fans did that obnoxious "tomahawk chop" routine.

I liked that Ralphie ran great routs.

I liked that I didn't have to wait to take a piss.

Kidding aside. I liked that we didn't EVER give up. The kids played hard. They were as good as FSU IMO. We just have to "learn" to win. We have to become a team that carries swagger throughout the game. I think we are getting close.

no team will play us with more heart than the rams

no venue will be more taxing than Tempe

no defense will be faster than FSU on Saturday night

every team in the Big-12 better beware the Buffs

Wheately, Dizon & Hypolite... 'nuff said

I really like that Hawkins went for the TD on 4th down near the end of the game. The announcers on TV kept talking about the scoring streak but it was nice that the coach was still going for the win and didn't care about the streak. To me streaks like that are something for poor/mediocre teams to hang on to.... "Yeah, we may suck but we haven't been shutout in 20 years."

the team is where i expect them to be.

the D is playing well.

the O is coming along. its gonna take a lot of time for everything to fall into place (probably gonna be '09).

lots of freshmen are playing and learning the ropes very early. this can only benifit the program druing the next 3 years. they are making a difference and i think the biggest positive the buffs have going for them.

we are still not in Big XII play.

Notre Dumb and the fuskers got thier asses handed to them.

i am still alive. :smile2:

If not for the Buffs loss this would have been a perfect weekend.

I like 300+ yards of passing
I love the D
I like what I saw out of J-Fly in his first actual game in Black and Gold

Glad we don't have ND's O-line!
Even more glad they do!

While I am still down about the winnable game here is what I think. I love the fact that there was no quit in the team, and Hawkins playing to win. Instilling this attitude now is going to be a factor at some later date.

I won't say anything about the O, since I can't get my mind around anything positive, except that FSU only sacked lil Hawk twice, and he did throw for his first 300 yard game. With that I guess the receivers caught a little bit better this week so some improvement was made there. Seemed to me that they kept to shorter routes (possibly to build more confidence).

I could go on all day about the D. They played awesome and it was nice to see them starting to gel.

Get the offense going and we may be dangerous going into conference play.

Positives I took from the game:

1. Defense played lights-out. You usually win games where you hold the other team to 1 TD and ~220 yards of offense.

2. Cody looked very composed back there. He was about the only bright spot for the offense.

3. WRs looked better, and look out for J-Fly! That guy has some wheels. I loved his postgame interview. Zimmer asked him about the speed of the FSU defense. He said 'yeah, they're fast, but not any faster than me'. And he's right.

4. Blackout was really cool. And the students were in their seats and loud when Ralphie ran.

I'm definitely seeing improvement from the team and I don't think anyone really expected to beat ASU or FSU, but they were a few mistakes from being in both games at the end, so that's encouraging and frustrating all at the same time.

1. Defensive line looked great.
2. Dizon must win the Butkus.
3. Cody is the answer at QB.
4. Young WRs look good.
5. Pass blocking looked good.
6. Students represented very well.
7. FSU fans around us pretty cool.

My positive (and not said yet... I agree with everyone else's except Miami).

We look stronger and more durable than we have in 8+ years. Seems like we have had very few injuries (zero on the Oline!!!) and we are much more physical. My  goes to our new S & C coach. He has played a huge role in transforming this team. They are stronger, tougher and meaner and I love it!!!

I agree, we are definitely stronger than in past memory. FSU was bigger and faster but not stronger.

Glad we don't have ND's O-line!
Even more glad they do!
Glad C-Hawk isn't Jimmy Klausen!!
Great to see some heart out there.
Great to see so many young players.
Future looks better! -- Give them 2 years and we'll all be foaming at the mouth!

And in the past (even last year), the D would ahve worn out and let the game get out of hand in the second half. That didn't happen Saturday. I'll give them a pass for the ASU game. Playing in 100+ degrees will wear out anyone who's not used to it.

What definitely helped was the longer drives the O managed to put together, particularly the one in the 2nd quarter. Even though they didn't come away with points, the sustained drives are definitely a good thing for keeping the defense a little less tired.

I loved the new tradition walk through the fans(whatever they named it), it was a lot of fun. We need more fans to come next time. I stood with some FSU fans and they really enjoyed it.

Correct. Even a couple first downs here and there help out in the long run. Last year, we had a lot of trouble sustaining drives.

I would like to add that the student section was a ton of fun on Saturday night. The blackout was cool, the students were pumped, and I forgot just how many hot girls go to CU.

The biggest positive for me was the three hour party that preceded the game.

I might have all of that alcohol out of my system in time for the Miami,OH game on Saturday. :wow:

As for the girls walking by the tailgate, yeah - that's nice, too.

I really dont know what to think about this team. 25% of the season is done and I really know nothing about this team, but besides OU and maybe the fuskers the rest of the season is against easier opponents, even the CSU game is tougher then some of the rest because of the 1st game and rivalry factor. With Sip and Perri back and now that J-fly has a game under his belt we should improve and the fact we are so young means we will continue to progress. I think this team can compete for the north, I dont think theyll win but come on is missouri really that much better then us? NU? I dont think so but even if we should finish 5-7 or something like that I see us with a brighter future than every team in the north, but Hawk needs to continue to pull good recruiting classes and improve on those. Were in for probably another rough year or two after this of near .500 ball but after that I see this program really kicking in, but recruiting is where its at. In 3-4 years we have to be competing for the big 12, not the big 12 north because that is what we fired Barney over, I think its going to happen and I expect it, not to be as good as Oklahoma or Texas but we should beat those teams and win those big games here and there.
