I'm struggling to come up with a better performance by any Colorado freshman quarterback in his first career start. And he did it on the road in a hostile stadium against a team that has beaten us 6 straight times.

Passing: 23/32 333 yards 3 tds 2 int
Rushing: 21 carries, 135 yards, 1 td

Great performance even if he were a senior.

The ceiling looks pretty high as some of his mistakes are correctable as well. But 300/100 is nuts.

Dude went 17/18 in the first half too. I hope they open more of the playbook with him now as well.

Should have been 18/19 w/ 2TDs. Didn't agree with calling the TD pass out of bounds.

Showed an amazing amount of character. Last week would have broken some QBs, he had every reason to doubt himself.

Instead he showed up big, played under control, played like a leader, played like a winner.

I think had he struggled it would have been hard for the team. Instead we beat a quality team on the road.

It's Sefo's job when he comes back but now he doesn't have to force himself back, and when he does come back there won't be a fear of what happens should he go down again.

Anyone got that stat on how many CU quarterbacks have won their first start? We had a long string of losses with that until Sefo (followed by Gehrke & Apsay) and now Montez.

Cody Hawkins won his first start. So did Klatt. Both against the lambies.

I'd argue that this is definitely the most impressive of the bunch, and that Klatt game was the best of his entire career.

After Cody, it was probably 5 or 6 before Sefo, right?

I think Ochs won his first start, didn't he? My memory says that he came in in a loss to KSU, but won the next week at aTm. Regardless, there's a lot to be happy about here. We could be looking at this game as a turning point in a few years.

I really think he wasn't mentally prepared to go into the Michigan game - he didn't believe he would have to come in and replace an injured Sefo. He thought the only way he would see the field was in clean up duty.

I don't think he'll ever make that mistake again - after that experience, I think he will approach every week as if he might need to play.

But more importantly: we definitely have at least one very good quarterback for 2017. No "think we have" or "hope we have;" we have one.

Klatt dropped a couple of deep balls in the basket along the west sideline with insane touch. I remember thinking he was going to be Pesevento +1, and then it never really showed up again.
