D-line next year

I am happy to enjoy this season without looking forward to much as this is the most fun I have had watching the Buffs in years, but I can’t help wondering how we are going to replace this interior D-line next year.

Samson, Carrell and Tupou have totally locked down the interior. Not many runs up the middle, consistent push and even some quarterback pressure. They have given the coaches so much freedom with how to play behind them with our linebackers and defensive backs. We have some quickness in the 2 deep but do we have any 300 lb tackles ready to step up when these guys graduate?

There will be a drop off at DB also, but I think there are some DB’s in the wings that will step up (Oliver, Fisher, Laguda, Moeller and Julmisse. We will have to develop some freshmen to fill out the depth.

DL is definitely a major focus with closing out this recruiting class.

hey save the pessimism for the offseason!!

Not pessimism, it’s a question.

With the emergence of Montez, our junior laden offense will be good, maybe even excellent with the another year of development on the O-line and the addition of a running back or two.

Answer a couple questions on defense, we have a chance to string a couple seasons together and create some real momentum for the program.

Pretty optimistic actually.

This is something folks have worried about all summer.

If we could get Ellis up here this spring I think he could be a starting nose tackle as a Freshman. Greg Rogers could start at DE for us. We would see some problems through the first half of the season and then we would be as stout as we are now.

Then you have the guys we are rotating in this year. Franke has alot of upside.

I think you may be underestimating how good Samson and Tupou have been this season. They have been really really good and will be difficult to replace by any freshmen, no matter how highly thought of they are.

I trust Leavitt and co will find an answer either way. I mean hell, they played a safety at OLB to contain UO on the edge. Talk about creative problem solving.

No P5 opponents in the non-conference next year. CSU is always a test, but it's still a very light OOC compared to normal. Defense will have a chance to work through some things and gel.

It doesn't seem like there's a huge Juco push there, so I am assuming they are comfortable with what is being developed. Tupou is going to play next level, as will Carrell I think. Hopefully we see more of the 2's and 3's this Saturday!

On a side note, still look for Trent Headley to make some noise next year once he is healthy. I think he can play the way Ryan played on Saturday against certain teams.

Simple, ellis, rogers and a juco. I have slacked on back up DL, are these guys pac12 talent or pac12 ready?

Got 5-6 young guys getting a year older, more mature and stronger, coming back next year. See NO reason to panic or even act worried.

Sorry but losing three senior defensive lineman (only one of which was recruited by the current staff) is going to worry most fans until that first game next fall. You just don't know what to expect.

Yeah, after the response on THIS board to Montez after he started the Spring game 1 for 6, I should recognize the nervous nancies.

Yeah. He was in line to be awarded a scholarship this year if he hadn't gotten hurt. Dude can ball.

I thought Umu was a big kid. What about Lopez? Won't he be a 300Lb junior next season? Tuialoma is a big dude as well.

Got somewhat of a pipeline going

Tupou is the biggest loss. Dude eats blockers for breakfast.

I don't like the way it went down but we actually got lucky with Tupou getting suspended for last season. Had he not been we would have had him starting but splitting time with Solis last season.

As it turned out Solis played last season at the level of a starter. Tupou came back this season like a beast, he is dominating the LOS.

A year ago I would have never expected Tupou and Samson to both be on the team this season. Maybe one of them. I would certainly have never expected both to be playing at this high of a level. It worked out well for CU, and I think, in the long run, it will have worked out for the best for the two of them as individuals.
