Rewatched the Oregon game

Random observations
- Our WR are the best. Sure they get separation and can catch, but they are bad ass blockers. Chev is amazing.

- Chido seemed to have an off day...2 bad/missed tackles and took a bad angle on their RB.

- We seemed to lose focus as the game went on...once we got it back we did better, particularly Montez.

- Our RBs are good but not game changers...they look good behind our line and WRs.

- LB play was serviceable, with the exception of KO, who looked pretty damned good.

The ducks game planned around Chido. They didn't let him alter the game. He got beat a couple of times, but he was on their best receiver and he had pretty much perfect coverage. The WR just made a better play.

A little bit of both your observations, I'd say. Chido was almost unnoticeable, which can be good as a DB because it means they are avoiding you. But he's an all-around playmaker on this D, not just a lockdown corner so I'd chalk it up as a bit of down performance. That said, to win that game, sealing it with a defensive play, mind you, when our best player has a down game, certainly speaks to the talent we have. I've been very pleasantly surprised by the play of Gilbert, Spoon, Olugbode, Carrell, and Kafovalu so far.

I think the great thing about the Oregon game, aside from the obvious fact that we won, is that we did respond well to adversity, as we have so often failed to do in the past.

It was definitely still a concern of mine going into the game, because we didn't really respond to the adversity we had in Ann Arbor. Obviously there were aggravating circumstances in that case that caused us to have perhaps an insurmountable amount of adversity, but the point remained that we hadn't proven ourselves to be able to do that yet.

The other great thing about all these performances so far is that we have been far from playing our best football in any one of them. We still have areas to clean up, and if we continue to improve, we're going to be scary good.

YES!! If we could duplicate our first quarter performance for 4 quarters, we'd be a playoff team. Much easier said than done, but goes to your point of not playing our best ball.

Good news is that every year HCMM's teams have gotten better as the year has progressed. I expect that trend to continue.

A few stats:

Time it took us to score our first points, which have been the first points in the game and all TDs: 4:29, 4:58, 2:13, 3:44

Have outscored opponents in the first quarter 72-14.

If we improve from that...watch out!

Think of the difference in Ann Arbor, if Frazier makes that rather easy catch of Montez's first pass for a TD. Could have been night and day!
Think also if Frazier makes a block on the first blocked punt. Poor George did not have a great game. Get him involved earlier!

He seems like Gillam...peaked early.

Rewatching it now almost over....Kyle Evans showed why he got a scholarship....he's a tough runner, head down after contact getting that extra yard or two.

Anyone got the youtubes?

Kyle Evans earned his scholarship, but IMO, the fact that he's been our 2nd best RB and seen the most playing time outside of PL, is more of an indictment on the other RBs on the team. Where the hell has Donovan Lee been? He was supposed to be one of the most explosive players on this offense and he's done next to nothing so far.

Really wouldn't mind having Patrick Carr back there right now.

That missed block Lee had on fourth down was killer.
