It's only a gambling problem if you don't win.
Follow me here:
1) Say we beat USC this weekend. Not that far-fetched.
2) If that happens, entirely reasonable to think we could win the P12-South. Not that far fetched.
3) Washington wins out & takes the North for a CU vs. Washington P12 title game.
3a) Washington wins, they'd be top 4 for sure and we go to the Rose Bowl as #2 team
3b) Better yet, we just win P12 championship and go to the Rose Bow.​

Meanwhile, trying to figure out a scenario where Michigan wins the B12, without being in the Top 4 so we can get a Michigan vs CU rematch at the Rose Bowl. Michigan redemption. CU wins the Rose Bowl.

More Kool-aid please.

(PS: Of course in the event the above happened, AP voters would probably put CU at #24 in the final poll, and the ESPN lead story that evening would be a 5 minute recap/what went wrong analysis of the SEC's 8th place team's loss in the Idaho Potato Bowl.... We'd get 15 seconds and two plays of highlights on the way to a commercial break.)
 
I would imagine that Michigan is going to have to beat tOSU in the Horseshoe to get into the playoffs. I highly doubt that happens.

Obviously it's possible that the Big Ten could get two teams in, but if I had to make a prediction right now, I would say that Alabama and Clemson are going to get in. In the scenario you posted, with Washington winning the Pac 12, they would be in. Safely (imo) assuming the winner between tOSU and Michigan gets in, there's the four spots, and Michigan is relegated to the Rose Bowl, against us.

I don't see Nebraska making it to the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin should win the West division, and you will have Ohio State or Michigan in the East ahead of them. Nebraska still has to play at Wisconsin and at Ohio State. Their game at Indiana this weekend is not a sure win either.
 
Depending on how many undefeated and 1-loss teams there are at the end of the season, Washington could lose one game, win the PAC 12, and still not get to the playoff.
 
****braska is a 5-0 paper tiger for sure. What an easy schedule they've had so far.
 
Easy big fella, the Arizona game becomes huge, the ASU game becomes huge, the WSU game becomes huge, the UCLA game becomes huge the Utah game becomes huge........ Let's face, we should have our sites set in winning at least 1/2 our final games and making a decent bowl game... I'm not sure it would be good for us to luck our our way into a championship caliber game yet.
 
I felt the same honestly looking at the schedule. If CU can manage a win on the road over a more talented USC squad we will be well on our way to winning more games. I don't think we beat Stanford (anything can happen) but CU can hang and beat Arizona, Utah, UCLA, WSU and ASU. We've done it when we were winning 2 games why can't we pull out the win when we've already won 4? 6 wins makes me a happy camper but a little disappointed in the finish. 7-8 and I'm super proud of this team. Anything over 8 is monumental and I will run through the streets of boulder naked screaming.

Meh. Those 124 games were an anomaly.

Safe Harbor: Prior results involving different players and different coaches is not a reliable predictor of future results.
 
No matter if we do lose this weekend, we know this team is resilient, we came back after the michigan loss and won on the road against a pac12 foe that has killed us. That's a good sign no matter how this weekend goes.
 
Question with the Playoff bowls-do they take the highest ranked team from a certain conference if they're affiliated with one, or can they take anybody they want within reason from that league?

CU has improved a great deal. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The OU win was a nice P12 roadie win, but that was not the OU we think of...they are at best a top 40 team, and getting their dose of halk love by proxy (thanks Mark!). Still, a huge leap for the Buffs. OSU, well, they have become even more pathetic than they were last year, but still, a nice home thumping of a P12 opponent.

So will CU see the dysfunctional, poorly coached but talented SC team that got blown out by Bama, and beaten by the Trees and the Yoots? Or will they see the dysfunctional, poorly coached but talented team that woke up and dismantled ASU? I think the latter.

If CU comes out of the next four 1-3, that would be nice. These are three good, and one decent team CU will be seeing over the next four weeks. 1-3 puts a fifth W in their back pocket and the remaining W for bowl eligibility is there for the taking against 3 teams CU matches up with well.

I would love to see CU roll into the Colisseum and beat SC, but that is going to require a near flawless game and a couple of breaks.
 
Before season I would have said 1-3 next 4 (ASU was the must win), but now think we should be at least 2-2. If we beat USC Sat. then sky's the limit.

You're rooting for 1-3 and that's your optimistic approach?? Yikes. You know you're a struggling fan when 1-3 over 4 games is somehow successful. CU will
Not beat Stanford. CU can beat ASU and UCLA and USC is up in the air. If we go 1-3 I'll be massively disappointed.

They're playing their best football in a decade and their own blemish so far is losing a 21-7 lead on the road to Michigan. At any point in the last 10 years do you remember CU leading ANYBODY 21-7? Let alone Michigan? ON THE ROAD! I'm not gettin ahead of myself but I've watched this team and they're capable of winning games this season. They lost to UCLA by 4 and USC by 3, Arizona by 7, Utah by 6, WSU was an anomaly and Stanford kicked our ass. OSU we beat by 4, we just beat them by 41. Oregon beat us by 17 at home and we just beat them. We mopped the floor with Idaho state (expected) and mauled CSU.

We aren't just barely winning, barely losing and getting blown out.

This team is ABSOLUTELY capable of beating Utah, UCLA, WSU and Arizona. They have the confidence and swagger to pull off wins against USC and ASU and (hopefully) close the gap just slightly on Stanford.

I understand everyone's reservations and not wanting to get over excited. We went from a horrific dumpster fire and a team we hoped could maybe win 4-6 games to 4-1 and ranked #21. Odds are they're going to lose games along the way. USC, Stanford, ASU, UCLA and Utah all present challenges to the buffs. We generally have less talent and less depth than most everyone else.

But 1-3? I'd be sadly disappointed for these kids. They've worked too hard to have a letdown like that. I'm excited for them and for the fans and I know that they can beat almost anybody right now and so do they. Confidence can go a hell of a long way.

I'm still realistic in my expectations but this team has the ability to win at least 8 games, maybe more. Time will tell, at least for once we're ahead and enjoying the ride instead of buried and hoping to climb from the ashes.

You misunderstand the difference between what I hope for, and what I think will happen....
