About last night

It's been a while since I woke up mesmerized on a Sunday because of what I saw the Buffs do the night before. They were the favorite against a good team in a big game at an important point of the season, set the tone from the beginning with that wonderful opening drive and never let up. They were expected to do a job and did it. Offense was there and compiled 500+ yards and 40+ points, we gashed their elite run D for 300+ yards on the ground and the D held them to half their season average in yards and points. And all this on a huge recruiting weekend, too, against a team we'd never beaten while Folsom was full and rocking for a good portion of the game. And unless ASU totally goes in the tank the rest of the season, this will be MacIntyre's first win against a P5 team that finishes the season with a winning record.

With Oregon now being completely exposed as frauds, this is our new statement win, I think.

this was a very important win for the program. it should be obvious to everyone now why a healthy sefo is our best bet. he reads so much faster and executes the offense so much more efficiently. i am so happy to have montez in the wings and he's going to be great-- by next season, he'll be reading defenses and running the offense so much more quickly than he does now.

i get really, really nervous when we try to get conservative with a lead. maybe i shouldn't. but, i have a theory about offensive personalities: basically, if you are a high speed offense, then go fast at all times. don't try to be something you aren't. last night, however, when we ran the ball down their effin' throats to seal the win, i saw something special that i didn't expect to see from our offensive style of play. i think the key to it may be whether we can gas the other team's defense and then pound them like last night. asu has a good run d but they were just exhausted by the end. and we imposed our will. that was awesome.

this has been a great season so far and there isn't a game left on the schedule that we can't win (or can't lose). it should be exciting.

finally, big kudos to the staff. what we are seeing here is that our installed philosophy on both sides of the ball is carrying over from season to season and player to player. new qb? no big deal, plug him in and run the offense. new wideouts? (how will we live without spruce)? no big deal, plug in the new guys and watch them go wild. lose a star defensive end? no problem, other guys step up. and, what is really beautiful about this is that we are in a position now to seriously upgrade our athleticism... if this thing keeps rolling like this and we can start plugging in more and more elite guys, then we are going to have ourselves a very special run of greatness.

Oregon's record was foreshadowed at the Stanford game 2(?) years ago, the year they had their sights on the National Championship. Stanford had the game under control, and two of Oregon's star players were both emotionally out of control on either ends of the spectrum: one was sitting on the bench openly weeping, and at the exact same moment the other was standing on the bench rage screaming at the Stanford fans. Helfrich did not even acknowledge either of them. I remember him staring out to field in his own mind as his team leaders were crumbling behind him.

This Oregon team is a dangerous team, when they believe they are a dangerous team. Their record is an indictment on Helfrich's lack of leadership. He allows them to be emotionally self indulgent. He slunk out of Boulder when he could have stayed and been an offensive Jim Leavit. Instead, he bailed. Now he captains a team who he has allowed to incrementally bail for three years.
