More Talk About The Big Ten Expanding?

Interesting. I doubt it though. If any team was to leave the big 12, it would be Iowa State. Mizzou has natural rivalry's with KU, NU, and in some ways, CU.

If that was the case, I think the big 12 would love to get their hands on Arkansas and I would have to think that Arkansas would bite. Leaving the SEC would be tough however I think that Arkansas would have more room to breath in our conference.

If Arkansas doesn't go, then the race is on. Who would we find offer Notre Dame? I doubt they would go for it.

I think that teams like TCU, Colorado State (what a terrible time to suck for them), Utah, or BYU would be a great potential fit in the big 12.

BTW, Boise State has already gone on record letting the country know that they would like to leave the WAC and move potentially to the MWC. I'm sure they would gladly take them.

Why move from the WAC to the MWC? They're the same thing.

Arky won't leave the SEC.. Too much money..

I still think Utah will be the team that moves into the Big 12 if someone like Missouri leaves.. They have world class facilities(from the Olympics 2002) and they have the fan support.. Plus they would fit right into the North where as Arky wouldn't exactly fit in the Big 12 North and you can't have either Okie State or OU in the Big 12 North while the other stays in the South.. Wouldn't make any sense..

I still doubt the Big 10 even wants Missouri.. Its not that big of a program. It would be like adding another Minnesota or Purdue to the Big 10.. That doesn't exactly make the Big 10 better... Penn State coming aboard in the early 90's made the Big 10 better.. Can't say the same if Missouri joins them.

If the Big 10 decided to expand (Mizzou is an option only if the Big 10 wants to pay ALOT of money to the Big 12) they would want in order:

1. Notre Dame (no chance)
2. Rutgers (North Jersey market)

Then the rest in no partiular order:

Iowa State
Pittsburgh
Missouri
Boston College
Syracuse

and 2 that academic standards might be an issue:

West Virginia
Louisville

I think Louisville would be the best option for them. Good football, good basketball, geographically logical but also brings in new TV sets. I don't know what their academic problems would be, but I don't pay that much attention to stuff like that outside of the B12.

ND is the obvious choice both geographically and from a draw standpoint, but assuming they decide to remain arrogant and not join a conference in football then the most likely on that list is probably Mizzou or Pitt. I hadn't thought about Rutgers with the NJ/NY market, but I just can't see that much of a draw with them in b-ball and I think the football program will turn out to be a flash in the pan.

Going back to the article, I don't see any way that the SEC would go for South Florida if Arkansas left the conference. But that is an interesting question as to who would fill the void if Arkansas left the SEC. Would they rob the ACC? Clemson? FSU? Ga Tech?

Agree with the argument about Arky and the SEC $$$$. But just for arguments sake, if they did leave, I imagine the SEC would want to fill the void with a team that could slide into the vacated West Div slot. Clemson, FSU, GTech, et al, might cause a realignment headache. Easier to fit a Louisville, Memphis, or even one of the tejas schools (TCU, Houston), into the SEC We$t, IMO.

I think there could be some interest there. Mizzou, Illinois, and Iowa should have some natural rivalry and the Tigers would bring a solid basketball and football program with them.

I don't know who the big 12 would pick up. I think BYU and Utah could be good teams. TCU has been a better program than Baylor. The big 12 should boot them and bring in the horned frogs. I think BYU would be the most attractive school though personally. A lot of history there and it would further increase the ties in California and Hawaii for the conference.

Hmm.

We could move OU back into the North. The NU fans would love this becuase they view them as their main rival in conference. Probably another old SWC team in Texas could be brought in

SEC would never let Memphis in. They recruit the hell out of that market, already get the tv sets there and the regional ties there (Ole Miss, MS St, UT), don't want to give Memphis any advantage to become stronger via BCS money.

Baylor brings a solid womens basketball and baseball team to the Big 12. Not to mention good academics to help offset the academic black hole that is OU. I don't think TCU will be switching after being admitted to the MWC so soon; even if the MWC is a big cluster**** of a conference.

I definitely see Boise St. and Hawaii getting picked up by the Pac-10 if they decide to have a championship game. I don't think that's the case. The Pac-10 is enjoying the fact that they can play nearly everyone in the conference during the regular season.

I don't think any major conference switching is in the works for a long while yet. With the way that this season is turning out, we might be in for a little shakeup in the near future.

If the Pac-10 was gonna expand to 12 teams then I would think they'd go after Utah and BYU.

I have said it before, but I'll say it again-TCU is not a good fit for the Big 12.
