This was a frustrating game, but remember how young our team is. Remember that the outsiders picked us to win 4 or 5 games. NU and ISU should be wins and we should be bowl eligible, with the next two years looking promising. Don't go home and kick the dog, better days are in the near future.

we can't dwell on it too long. we better be ready to play next week. Tech is schizo, so i'm not sure what losing like they did at Mizzou really means. Mizzou is a top 15 team legit, but Tech is dangerous at home and a couple busts by our guys and they can score a bunch.

though, right after the game i kinda felt like it was back to square one. i think we are still on schedule to a bowl game if we come to play and stay focussed.

Young team had nothing to do with today's lost.. Most of the mistakes today were by upperclassmen..

Bottom line, today there was a win there for the taking and we ****ed it up.. No, ifs, ands, what-ifs, etc, etc about it..

It was a tough loss.

There will be a lot on the kids now after losing two in a row. They could win three of the last four. I also could seem them winning only one. Polk committing is teriffic but they need to keep winning to keep that trend going.

I'm curious about a couple of things:

Is Conrad Obi playing much??

What happened to Nate Solder?? I thought we really had something in him that one week but haven't seen much since and yesterday the announcers mentioned a couple of times we were thin at Tight End.

In your opinion does Byron Ellis have good field vision?? I saw him just ram into the rear of the pile a time or two when it looked like a little juke to the left could have netted some nice yards. Just wondering about that one.

I was pretty disappointed in the game in general for many of the same reasons as most of the rest......pass rush, etc..... I think the thing that was the biggest disappointment to me was the running game. I still can't accept that Kansas "D" is really that good. Maybe I'm just remembering the "good ole days" when KU and KSU were automatic for us.

For those at the game did Charles really try to delibrately fumble it forward?? Even if yes, I'm not sure benching him for a few minutes was the best way to handle it. Dumb mistake yes but take it out on him in practice. His determination on the field is terrific right now and I think we really could have used it for the whole game yesterday. If I remember correctly the next drive w/o him quickly bogged down and the running plays went no where. To me it seemed to take some of the momentum away.

But heads up, move on. Tech is vulnerable, but our defense will have to play the same way it has in the past against the Raiders. If they get on a roll it will be over quick for us. I'm totally :bang::pissed: that I have a :gun:housing conference in San Diego next weekend :pissed3:

Most made by upperclassmen?

Hmm, I seem to remember a young Cody Hawkins mis read a lot, I seem to remember Josh Smith dropping a key catch late in the game, I seem to remember Ryan Miller allowing two sacks, I seem to remember Kai Maiva get plowed over. Yong guys and sasoned vets both mistakes in was a teameffort in teh loss, and the majority of our starters are young so yes, YOUTH HAD ABOUT 90% OF WHY WE HAVE LOST THE LAST TWO GAMES. You will continue to see game slike this, ones for the taking that we can't get. We will get better but be ready for more frustration.

very good point. we are already at where THEY said we would be when the fat lady sang.

folks, we were all aware that we would eek out 6 and go to the toilet bowl. we were all aware that this trajectory was a step in the right direction. and it is.

those who are acting as if the sky is falling, what did you expect? a number one ranking and a crystal trophy?

i am willing to continue putting time and patience into hawk building this program. but to each their own. what i am NOT willing to do is to force myself to a coronary that the buffs are right on track. again, to each their own.

I have been really pissed (angry pissed not drunk pissed even though that maybe the direction I'm headed) the last two weeks after the sloppy games. Williams finally made a nice catch, too bad that whatever he had has infected Sprague. Anyway I started breathing exercises to calm down. Deep breath and "We are a young team" on the exhale. If it doesn't work for you at least it should serve as a reminder that's where we are and there are better times ahead.

I'm trying to stay positive. The Buffs have lost to two teams that were better than them the last two weeks. However, if the Buffs fail to make a bowl, I will be disappointed. It's not too much to expect two wins out of the last four games.

I do agree with both of those. And yes, KU and KSU are better than the buffs right now, their QB's are playing better than ours and 6-6 after 2-10 would make me smile with hope for the future.

Yep. You just highlighted the major difference right now between us and the elite teams in the Big 12. Right now, our young QB is making too many mistakes for us to win (to be fair, he's not the only player making mistakes). QB play makes a huge difference.

I think we will get the wins to go to a bowl. At least ISU and NU. I tend to think we win next week too. I am still drinking the koolaid.

Agree - Buffs at least played with KU #13; they look out of synch against better teams but they are BETTER teams - not Montana State - not CSU. I will go to my happy place and wait patiently. We are not in a tailspin like Neb or aTM.

not too long ago we were blown out by ranked teams. blown the feck out.

yesterday is not too danged bad. we are on track. :gobuffs:

Williams finally made a nice catch, too bad that whatever he had has infected Sprague.

Don't kid yourself, Sprague has his own infection. PW's illness seems to only affect him during night games, where as Dusty's appears to have less to do with the time of day and more to do with the fundamental composition of his DNA.

And the lord said unto Dusty, "My son, you shall not be as fast as the other football players, but fear not, for you shall be blessed with terrible hands."

dusty has made improvements in leaps and bounds over last year.

and a friendly warning: around here we do NOT bash on our athletes. that kid cleated up and is playing his heart out for cu. that in itself is enough.

if you feel like bashing your own, please pick up an ugly red jersey and whoo-hoo for the shuckers. thanks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out the kid's faults on the football field. He's slow and he has terrible hands (relative to other division 1 wide receivers that is, compared to most King Soopers cashiers I'm sure he has incredibly good hands), these are facts. I'm not attacking him personally, I'm sure he's a bang up guy, but he's a cruddy football player.

Really, I'm not even all that upset with Dusty, I think it's more just residuals of my frustration with Gary. How he could take the momentum of that 2001 season (and to a lesser degree 2002) and use it to recruit a big wad of specialists like Dusty, Judge, "What Play?" Monteliah, Littlehales, and undoubtedly several others who weren't athletic enough to beat out these guys for starting positions... uff... it just boggles the mind.

maybe you slept thru it or something, but there was this little off-campus party in december of 2001 where some stuff happened. and, it unleashed a ****storm on the program. you may be surprised to know this, but recruiting in that environment was very challenging.

in any case, these guys you are making fun of are Buffs. no one is going to say we don't need to upgrade the talent level and that process is underway. but, you are going to rub a lot of folks the wrong way here if you continue the name-calling of CU athletes.

We haven't been that dominant in almost 20 years. Fact is, before Hawk got here we were getting blown out almost every time we faced a ranked team.

As MBB said, recruiting restrictions. Oh and if you knew the story of Big play Monteilh you might not make fun of him. How about that game winning catch he made vs. KSU?

...?!?!...when Dusty was a Sr at Holyoke, he was the man. There was nothing to say that he couldn't improve on his skills and become a solid contributor. So, he didn't become an All-American, but saying recruiting him was a mistake is dumb. Sure, I was psst at his dropped pass, and he isn't the fastest, but he plays hard.

Monteih was an athlete, and so was Littlehales. Tyler actually was a four star WR that due to injury and maybe some other factors behind the scenes, didn't pan out. Athletic enough? These two were very athletic, and Dusty had potential as a HS sr. Your comment is ignorant or misguided...

Frustrating to watch sure, but remember that while many kids in college are ****ing around, living off of mom and dad's vast incomes, the kids in DI athletic sports essentially have a part-time to full-time job playing their asses for their schools. Sure, some take classes a little lighter or the athletics lightly, but they still play. It's admirable. Their performance at times can be frustrating, but it happens. I'm sure you **** up at work sometimes too.

Rep!

I'd also like to mention that skill positions are the hardest to recruit. The transition from HS to D1 is night and day. A lot of guys dominate in HS at QB or WR or RB just due to their speed and/or size. I really want the upper classmen to step up and catch everything thrown to them and while I want to pull out my hair when a pass is dropped I realize that these guys are 18-23 year olds that are trying hard. Some are great and might get a chance to play in the NFL and the others are just having fun playing what will be the last time they can play competitive football.

Not to mention that the demands placed on them are higher than those of the normal student body. They are heavily scrutinized on and off the field and in the class room. They did sign up for it when they signed their LOI and enrolled in classes, but just remember yourself at 18-23 and see if you could do everything they do week in and week out for 4+ years on end (socializing, classes, homework and just growing up). It's hard and difficult. Should they be exempt from scrutiny? Absolutely not. Hawkins is a good QB, but he is still adapting to CFB and I mention it from time to time, BUT there is a line that needs to be drawn. That line is where you say they suck. Remember, these aren't professional athletes. Should they be benched? At times I feel they should, but I'll leave that up to the coaching staff to make up their minds as to what is best for the team. If anything, go after Hawkins, he's a man, I hear he's over 40.

I'm with ya bro - I am just kind of discouraged a bit. It just seems like the buffs or their opponents are always making these "program firsts" recently. I'm still pissed - remember RTD? what the hell happened to that? cost us five more freakin years.

Ty Littlehales was far and away the best WR in the state the year he came out. He had size, speed, and hands. Opposing teams would gear their entire defense around stopping him, and they usually failed.

I think he had some "big fish, little pond" kind of problems after he left HS and found himself just another fish in a big pond of athletes that were just as good as he was. That's just my opinion. I also think that had he kept his head straight, he could have played in the NFL. He was an Ed McCaffery type guy.

Anyway, back on topic for a second - I'm still drinking the kool-aid. I was very disappointed with the clock management and all the little mistakes. As usual, I nearly went apoplectic after giving up three third and long's in that 95 yard drive at the end of the third period/beginning of the fourth. That drive is what killed us. Stop them at the 5 yard line as we should have, and we win the game. Of course, there were a lot of things we can point to and say "do this and we win the game". The Buffs are on the way. They haven't gotten there yet, but they're close. As long as Hawk can keep them positive through this rough spot, they'll close out the season strong.

i can understand you being upset that it has taken some time to fix our gladiators. i just happen to enforce the standard that we do not take it out on the kids. what the feck did sprague have to do with conceptualizing RTD?

now you know where the line is. trust you are on a short leash.

you sir must be suffering from to many brain cell killing times in your life.... maybe you should go back a view the baylor game, the ou game and then tell me the same about Dusty.... yes he has had drops the past two games, but overall this season he has been the most consistant pass catcher along with the TE that CU has.....
