Hi Kyle!
Very long-time Buff fanatic (BA 1964). Fantastic article re Buff recruiting, 10/21! Keep the great recruiting info coming! My question that I'd appreciate you asking Buff coaches: there are now tons of high schools & FB players in Colo. In perusing the HS FB stats from last Thurs., I see
Rushing
5A Yards TD's
Fitzgerald, T.J. 1242 14
Bolen, Grandv. 1148 13
Bowens, Pom. 1087 13
Davis, Columb. 980 12 & 10.8 YPC
4A
Snow, Broomf. 1381 23
Jackson, Pueb. W. 1232 14 & 10.2 YPC
In receiving, I see lots of guys with lots of yds & YPC. Now my question: Why don't the Buffs recruit any of these guys? Surely, there are some excellent athletes among all these guys!!! Thanx! Go Buffs!

Yours truly, Jim Schisler
Jim,
Thanks very much for reading. CU coaches recruit the best players they can find in-state and around the country. They have received several commitments from Colorado prep players already in this class. So it's not that they don't recruit players in the state.

The stats you list are impressive numbers, but they don't really provide any context. Who are those kids playing against to get those stats. If you took those kids and put them on teams in Los Angeles or Dallas or New Jersey or Florida, would they produce the same stats? Those are the questions coaches ask themselves as part of their evaluation of every prospect.

There is a large talent pool out there and CU fans should want coaches who will go overturn every rock to find the best of the best and bring them to CU. Sometimes those players might be just down the road, but most of them are going to be a bit further away. You don't want a team filled with in-state players. That team already exists. It's called Colorado State. I'm sure you've seen how it's doing. Thanks for the question.

That's it this time around. Hope you will all continue to read buffzone.com.I'm off to Lubbock, Texas.

Ouch.

Ringo reminds me of that guy in high school who wrote for the school paper.

perhaps thats becuase the BDC has the circulation of a high school paper?

I'm not following this thread, didn't Ringo just slam the Lammies? I agree with his basic premise, if the Buffs have all CO kids, not that there aren't some worthy blue-chippers (obviously), the program would be a loser.

I'm just kind of amazed that any "fan" would ask a question like that.
