I've never really been one to wholeheartedly ascribe myself to the myth that Nebraska fans are the classiest in college football, but even from a cynic's point of view this article is pretty unbelievable. I mean, I wouldn't expect a soccer team in Tehran to get treated like this, let alone the oh-so adored Cornfuskers.

Cue the Nebraska rebuttal: "Pssh, that's nothing. Remember in 2005, when 10 of your students threw empty water bottles at your endzone? Yeah, that was WAY worse, so quit talkin'!"

a poor example to cite, those who would cue up to that tune. they threw bottles at drumm in the endzone in lincoln before our students threw it at nobody in boulder.

That is pretty bad but we've seen this before over the last few years just not maybe to this extent.

Not too many people outside of Nebraska have subscribed to that myth for a while now.:spam:

It's pretty sad how some fans have turned on our own players! Although it's evident that they have completely quit on the current coaching staff there is still no reason to boo these kids.

Need I remind all the Buff faithful of a certain date? I will give you a hint. November 25, 2005 Funny how that works doesn't it?

It's not so much the examples of classlessness that can be found at any college football game. It's the hypocrisy of fusker fans that believe their **** doesn't stink.

I mis read the initial post. I thought it was the typical Husker bashing but after I looked at it, the article was about how we are bashing our own team. My bad!

Trust me not all of us think like that. Yes I take pride in being a Husker fan but I also have a life outside of being a fan. Call me a minority I guess! :smile2:

I say Bull****, I would expect this the way their sucking. BC and all the recruiting rankings had these people thinking they were back only to get bent over. They should be taking some ****, their playing like pussies, I think I actually think a little more of Nebraska after this.

I would have to agree... If NU was losing but just getting out played that is one thing, but when you show lack of effort and heart, no pride in yourself or what you represent by the "N" on your helmet.... SOME of the players and SOME specific plays deserve a booo. Are fans still applauding opponents, the answer is only the ones left in the stands are and that has not been many by the 4th quarter. Are we the "classiest" fans?... C'mon, no school has the market cornered on that. There have been many nice things stated by many coaches and players who visit Lincoln that are well documented. There are many fans of visiting teams that can refute all of those... the reality is the truth lies in the middle somewhere. Diff fans get diff treatment, CU gets the short end IMO because we collectively bring out the worst in each other as fans, it is called a rivalry. When a LB has an angle on a WR heading for the end zone and instead of driving a shoulder into him and wrapping up he gives a hand-check to the point the WR keeps his balance and scores that IMO is deserving of a "BOOOOO" especially when same LB was at the mic just days earlier stating how they are trying so hard and how the game is not fun anymore..... grow up, suck it up and finish.... be a blackshirt for Pete's sake.... All JMO.

It never ceases to amaze me that the man who introduced the "blackshirt" idea was a Buff and obviously was trying to make the nubs more like CU.

It's a pretty bad time to be a Husker fan right now, but I would never resort to attacking my own teams players. Is it obvious that they have given up? Yes it is. However; the problem lies ultimately with the coaching staff and that is who I have the problem with. Now I will bitch and complain if McKeon does some stupid **** on the field, but I don't think I would ever start yelling at him at a game and tell him that he sucks! I would probably yell at him and tell him to get fired up if anything. I have never claimed that we are the classiest fans because as Waylon stated nobody can say they are the best. Everybody has good and bad experiences at different places. This board has actually made me think a little differently of CU fans.

One thing not mentioned here is how this is the second coaching staff that Hellen Keller hasn't shone for. Perhaps he is more of the problem than people think.

heh- yeah. He may have the distinction of getting two coaches fired.

Actually, the man who did that is from Michigan. His name is Bob Devaney.

Actually, the man who did that was named Charlie McBride and he was from CU. Try again.

Actually, it was under Devaney.

"The awarding of the black practice jerseys began in 1962 under coach Bob Devaney, who wanted to make it easier to identify his defensive players during practices.

He sent an assistant coach out to a Lincoln sporting goods store to buy practice jerseys for the defense. Unable to get enough jerseys of one color to outfit the entire squad, the decision was made to give the first-string players the black ones.

The collective defensive unit has become nationally known as the "Blackshirts.""

Hmmmmm. I had always heard it was a Charlie McBride thing. Whatever. It still reeks of envy on the fuskers part.
