Derrick White invited to NBA Combine

Draft Express has Derrick White at 50. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2017/
I know there is a lot of mocks out there, but DE is well-researched IMO.

Would be sweet to see him go to the Denver Nuggets at 49 or 51, even though they have a crowded back court.

He has lottery talent, and if he was 2-3 years younger there'd be no question about it. I think he'll make a lot of GM's sorry they didn't pick him when they had the chance.

A lottery talent is an overstatement. He is very good but he isn't that good.

He is not going to be a star player in the NBA but I think that given the right opportunity he is going to be one of those guys who becomes a solid multi-year starter and the kind of player that the stars want to have on their team.

He will be a guy who plays defense, he is also a guy who is naturally a team player on offense. He sets guys up, he makes the kind of passes that make stars look like stars and average players look better than average. He doesn't have to score a bunch to be happy but he is good enough at scoring that defenders can't drop off him and double the star players.

Some GM is going to be very happy he did pick him and some coach is going to be very happy to have him.

6 weeks till the draft and a lot can happen. Given the trajectory he's been on since his freshman year in college its a good bet those projections will keep getting higher.

Yep. After about the first 10 picks, there's no one that analysts are all that excited about. There's an opportunity to play your way into the 1st round.

I know you're just making a passing, general statement, but seriously, check out Draft Express. I like what they bring, and it is hard to evaluate all college players and international.

Agree that there's a way for White to get into the first round, but I'm not sure there's nobody after 10 that people are all that excited about. Even though I just told Highlander to check out Draft Express, I have to admit to hypocrisy bc I haven't in a bit. But, I think this is a great, deep draft. Guys like Bam, Giles, Thornwell, etc should all be available in late 1st. One name that I am really interested in is Terrance Ferguson. He committed to Arizona and decided to play overseas. He was damn good in HS in a deep senior class. I'm biased, but Kennard also is a great pickup w a late 1st round pick. Bacon is an athletic stud, Leaf most people like, Justin Jackson is ready to step in immediately. I'd say I'm more excited about this draft than many of the past ones.

I should have phrased that as "consensus excitement about".

Normally I'd agree. But this is Draft Express. You won't find a better more accurate site for draft info. A month ago in the eyes of the NBA he deserved to be that low. They're now recognizing what we've known. If DX has him that high, he's gonna get picked.
 
From the Yahoo article: "The hope was that he’d go to Colorado and go against all this top competition every day, but he ended up the best player on that team too. I’m not saying they didn’t push him, but I do feel like when he gets onto a team where he’s not the best player, he’ll be able to make some adjustments and grow his game even further."

What an understatement. If we had another player nearly as talented as Derrick on the team we could have easily been a Sweet 16 team.
 
5 on 5 teams released. White should have the opportunity to shine. Briscoe is the only other lead guard.
