People that are calling for Hawks head

I really have to question your football intellegence. Take a minute and look at everything, this is a YOUNG team. YOUNG teams frustrate you in every way, yes even this deep into the season. This isn't the end of the world. Buffs are on their way up.

Yes, we know that. It is some of the coaching decisions we are questioning.

Are the decisions so bad that someone needs to lose their job over it?
people losing jobs over this type of stuff is crazy. they are measured on more than wins/losses.

you have to consider the whole package. as a whole, this coaching staff is doing some great stuff; recruiting, working with a young team, and the overall package they put of the field each week.

for anybody calling for a coaches head, 'grow the hell up'...

People are just upset how we lost this game. Hawk is a good coach, but he needs to take a page from his own rant, "This is Division 1 football, it's the Big 12!!" Going for it on 4th down consistently when you were the top dog in the WAC is one thing but when you are mediocre and in the Big 12 you might want to rethink some things from time to time. Now in a few years with a seasoned O-Line and a backfield of Scott and Polk, hell yeah, let's go for it :)

I've said it in another thread and I'll say it here...

Hawk is coming from Boise State, where if you can recruit very well, you can just out talent everyone. Now he's in the Big 12 BROTHA! As much as the freshmen on the team, he's going through a learning process as well.

Think about your own job, could you go from being an intern to being management without making ANY mistakes? I doubt it.

And if you made that jump, would you want people to call for you head for every little mistake you made? i doubt it.

Yeah, this is the most common argument. When he went for it on 4th down against CSU with the game on the line everyone praised his guts. Now that he didn't make one we're all complaining about it. You can't have it both ways.

but the game wasn't on the line, pin them up, I have no problem going for it deep in enemy territory but not when we are on our own 45, and that seems to be somewhat common.

Yeah, and we were averaging 6 yards a cary at that point and our defense was holding them to 3 and outs, blame the defense for going into the tank, not Hawk for making a ballsy decision based on the fact that we had been dominating them in the run game to that point.

Field posistion is important, especially on the road, I stand by my opinion to pick and choose when you go for it on 4th down, leading the nation in 4th down attempts is not a stat that I am overly proud of.

not saying he made all the right decisions. just saying its not something you change coaches over.

I know, let be like the 'the best fans in college football' and start harassing the coaches' kids at school, and obsessing about wins/losses like its the end of the world.

This IS the Big XII and it is division 1 football, but the last time I looked no one was going to die over it.

Save the extreme actions for extreme problems...

I think you will be hard pressed to find a post where I stated anything about me wanting him to leave, I want him here, I just want him to be more conscientious about when he goes for it on 4th down.

Except that I have made posts on here before the season and during the K-State game about some of the 4th down calls. I don't mind that he's aggressive, but sometimes he's outright reckless. I hope he learns from these mistakes.

While I don't disagree that it is unreasonable to call for the coaches' heads, I strongly disagree with your reasoning. By definition, every team in college is a young team. This is a trite excuse in the world of college athletics.

No, and I'm not calling for anyone's job. I like Hawk's aggressive attitude but there is a time when he needs to play it safe. This isn't the first time he's made a call like that that has come back to bite him. If we had been deep in their end it wouldn't have been so bad but on our side of the field there is no need for that unless you're in a situation where there is no choice like at the end of a game when you have to get a score.

When you're up by 21 why give the opponent a chance to get back in it with a short field when you could punt and make them go farther?

He's gotta be smarter than that.

The only problem I had with the fourth down play was the call and the execution. The play had Sumler make a little fake to the middle of the line before the handoff then cutting back to his right as he gook the handoff. It just took way too long for him to get his momentum going. We should have just had a direct handoff and hit the hole as quick as possible. Second, Sumler ran way to tentitively. He just did not run tough and came up 6 inches short. He did not fight for extra yardage.

true dat.

people, if you cannot be constructive (at minimum) how about taking a break from the computer?

OK, I should not use that kind of description. But Hawk was sure chewing his butt on the sideline. His legs just stopped driving after he hit the line.

He hasn't read his blocks well all season long. But your right. He should've kept churning a little more.

Two things;

1. They drank teh Koolaid
2. They have no idea what greatness and the mNC really looks like.

I've seen a lot of great Miami football teams. I'd say that this team has the best coaching staff in 13 years AND it has has more talent on offense in one finger than it had all season last year.

We are young. We are inexperienced. We show flashes of greatness. We show utter stupidity. We're going to get a lot better. Two years from now we should be laughing at the memory of this tough season where we also did a lot of growing.

I know thats what I think too. The coaches and players are learning. And for the record, I too get frustrated with Hawk not playing field position. I am seriously taking a sign to the Nebraska game that says, "PLAY FIELD POSITION!!"

it will be ok. the staff DID jack this game up. they are fair game for criticism because they made some really bone-headed decisions.

yes, we have a young team and i think our staff needs to pull up its big boy pants and realize this isn't the wac. the b12 has good defenses, unlike the wac. and there are good staffs across the board too. you have to work for your wins and you have to play it smart.

i like our prospects for the future if they can get some more athletes here. that's really the biggest issue-- we still have gaps. and not having t-wheat and walters was an absolute crusher in this game. we don't have the depth to shake that off, even against the likes of an isu.

we knew this would be a frustrating year. the fusker game is huge.

GO BUFFS!

I agree with this, and think that Hawk and his staff are taking there lumps. Right now, we are not talented enough to overcome coaching mistakes. I think another poster alluded to this. When you are scoring touchdowns on every possession, it makes more sense to be aggressive with the 4th down calling. When you cannot score on every possession (either because you don't have the talent, the defenses are too good, or a combination of both), field possession is of much more importance. Looking at Hawk's perspective, field possession never really mattered much at Boise St. The objective was to score as many TDs as you could.

This place would be a lot happier if you other turds would follow my lead here. And stop quoting his posts. I don't wanna see the verbal diahrrea that comes from his keyboard.

This PSA brought to you by a slightly mellower 'rino.
