The second call was the right one.... it was the first

that they blew.... or actually the refs failure to start the clock in a timely fashion is what the league should look at.

On the final play, with one second left, we clearly waited more than 2 seconds after the ref wound his hand. the rule is, the ref places the ball, then walks away from the line, then winds his hand to start the clock.... our center waited a few seconds...

it was the first placement that was an absolute joke.

I'm not sold that the second call was the right one either. I'm pretty sure the refs absolutely douched their credibility/reputation on 2 consecutive plays.

Fair enough, but they should have blown the whistle right then and there and not wait until after the FG was good to decide to talk about it.

According to the announcers, the ref announced that it was a dead ball penalty. If so the clock should have started at the snap of the ball. If it wasn't a dead ball penalty and the ref screwed up by saying so, 1 second should have been put back on the clock and the down replayed.

A good official would have explained to the players what was going to happen. "I will set the ball, back away, wind my hand and blow the whistle, at which time the clock will start." They players had no clue what was going on because the shi**y officials had no clue.

I spoke with a NCAA official of mine, he's based in Indianapolis, he said it should have started on the snap of the ball, snapping the ball prior to being blown ready to play is a dead ball delay of game.

He also mentioned that he thought the official was from Nebraska and a former NU quarterback.

The 25 second clock did not need to be re-set...it was off. There should never have been a delay of game penalty. The ball was set, snapped and kicked through the upright for a FG. Tie game.

Hey, maybe now the fu**ing big XII officials will start giving CU a break! I still think they hold the "fifth down" and "scandal" against us, for some reason. I think, as a whole, college officiating is horrible.

I'm reading the rule book right now, and even I can't figure it out...

WHEN CLOCK STARTS

Article 5....On a scrimmage down, the game clock shall be started when the ball is snapped legally or on prior signal by the referee...

a. When the clock has been stopped, the referee shall declare the ball ready for play and the clock shall start on the snap unless it was stopped for one of the following reasons:

4. To complete a penalty (Exception: After a delay foul by Team A while in scrimmage kick formation).

b. If the clock was stopped for incidents 1 through 11, it shall be started on the ready for play signal.

So if I'm reading that correctly, the clock should start on the snap, unless it's to complete a penalty, but the one exception to that is a delay penalty on a field goal attempt, which is EXACTLY the situation that occurred on Saturday, which means the clock should start on the snap in THAT situation.

I can't help but wonder if the rule book is incorrectly written here, it would seem to make sense that a team with no time outs, trying to kick a last-second field goal ought not to be able to stop the clock by committing a penalty....

No the rule is correct...we got f**ked, and there is a free article on scout, that hawkins has talked to the big 12, he wont say anything until the big 12 makes it public. He was asked if he was satisfied and he said "ah, well, yeah"

The rule is written correctly. You can only stop the clock by a delay of game penalty. Any other penalty and the clock starts on the ready.

So the only two ways you can commit delay of game is:
1) Wait the 25 second clock to wind down (you're not buying yourself any time if you do this)
2) Snap the ball before the referee blows it ready. For this, the ball has to be on the ground (or else you couldn't snap it), so the only way for this to happen is for the refs to be taking their sweet time to blow it ready, which means it shouldn't happen unless they don't want to go into overtime because they have a roast in the oven.

14 seconds for these lazy pieces of sh*t, we ran the entire FG unit out in time, which includes atleast 6 300 lb guys. or the other reason could be...you played QB at a school, and it was your fault a certain team ruined your streak, and thats the only way you can get back at them. This crew should be let go, or atleast sent to the MWC

What pisses me off is that there is no national outrage. When the "fifth down" happened, there was all kinds of national outrage because we won the MNC. In this case, no one gives a ****. I say bullshi*. I'm not even going to go into what a crock of shi* the "fifth down" thing was. I'm sick and tired of CU getting butt fuc*ed. SICK AND TIRED, I TELL YA!

I just wanna kick that ref in the teeth, anyone see his corn**** sheister lawyer website. I'm not feeling spiritual but this cornball should not be reffing games when we play rednecks

My OPINION, is that the refs made the right calls in both cases. My problem with the refs is their slow placement of the Ball for play.

My real problem is with the short pass in the middle of the field on the play before that. I would like an explanation of that play calling. You have to call make sure the clock is stopped at the end of that play - either by the player going out of bounds, first down, or an incompletion. It seems you have to call a pass to the sideline. By not doing so the fate was left in the hands of the referee.

Ok, so the delay of game is the right call (even if it's their fault for not putting the ball in play on time), but how in the world is winding the clock at the ready the right call? The rulebook spells it out. If a penalty is a delay of game on Team A on a scrimmage kick formation, the clock is to start at the snap.

Anyone see the deal Vic Lombardi did on the news last night? Really interesting comarison of the CU kick and the Broncos kick. They had an identical amount of time to get their kicking team on the field. The difference was the NFL officials got the ball spotted and let 'em kick it. The officials in the CU game spotted it exactly the same but, for some reason, called the penalty on the snap. Oh well. I'm tired of kicking the dead horse.
