Should he stay or should he go?

I like the guy. I think he's a good coach. UM had a lot of injuries this year. Henne played with a bad throwing should last two or three games. Then again, the guy cant beat Tressel.

Opinions?

How pissed would LSU fans get with Miles leaving for Michigan and Saban coaching at Alabama? They'd get so worked up the smell of corn dogs would waft all the way to Denver.

It just doesnt make sense to me for Miles to make that move now. I dont see the UM job being an upgrade from LSU. Okie State was a different story. UM will be harder to recruit for than LSU will be. He also has a great staff which will not go with him (Pellini would likely get promoted).

Debatable if Michigan is a better job (they are the all time winning program, I think), but Miles is a Mich alum. That is what might get him to make the move. Not necessarily because it is a more high profile job.

It'd serve them right. All reports I've read suggest that they hold Miles up to the standard of Saban (who LOST today against UL-Monroe, a sunbelt team). I guess winning 11 games for 2 seasons is not up to their standard.

From what I've heard on the subject, most LSU fans are willing to concede this one. Obviously, they'd rather keep Miles than lose him, but they aren't going to be burning effigies of the guy if he goes back to take the head coaching job at his alma mater (not to mention one of the best, if not the single best, coaching jobs in all of college football... barring something catastrophic, you're all but guaranteed to hold that post for at least 10 years).

I assumed he assisted there. I didn't check to see if he was an alum. It makes sense then on a personal level. I see recruiting being easier at LSU than at UM and given the parity that exists today I might stay at LSU.

Not since 2001 has any other program won the Big 10 other than tOSU or Michigan (that's what they said on ABC today). Even in a down year, it's easier to survive the Big 10 on the way to the mNC than it is in the SEC.

2 year letterman (74-75) then coached there for a couple of years until he left with McCartney for CU.

Not saying he will leave LSU, but if he does, it wouldn't be a shock.

well, with ULM beating 'bama today, its quite possible they will fire saban. one has gotta think that there are some "jimmybuff eruptions" of epic levels going on there tonight.

heck, saban has lasted almost an entire season and he is only 6-5. thats pretty good for 'bama, lettin him stay that long. dem dar folks down dar growin some patience.....:smile2:

:lol::wink2:

I thought I read somewhere that Miles made it known that Michigan was his ultimate top job. Anyone else hear that?

I think Miles is crazy if he chooses to leave LSU. He's got a great thing going right now and I don't really see how MU would be better (unless he hates the smell of corn dogs).

He can still blame this loss on the last coach. This hapens next year and hes on the hot seat. He was a f*cktard for leaving LSU in the first place.

If Carr retires or in reality gets **** canned...this shakes up a lot of different schools are far as HC's spots go. From what I have read Miles is a "shoe in" at UM if he is interested in the job. So this could spark LSU to look into taking Bo Pelini as their HC. If he takes that job then I think it will solidify Turner Gill's spot as the HC of Nebraska (not my top choice by the way). Strange how this could be a big domino effect. Just my two cents.

you do realize my entire post was nothing but sarcasim?:smile2:

'bama wont fire the guy in his first season. they will give saban till the mid point of next year till they fire him.:smile2:

Actually its not. I am sure there are Bama booster questioning Saban right now. Those people are ****ing nuts. You have no clue about fanatics until you've delt with the Alabama fan.

Auburn fans are not a lot better. Just more jealous. :smile2:

I'm not sure Peilini is really all that good of a hire. I'd be a lot more worried if they found a way to get Rich Rodriguez or Tedford from Cal.

Your on crack. Pellini is believed to be fast tracked for both the NU and aTm job (if it opens). Bo moved the NU D up in the NCAA rankings a radical number of spots in his one year under Solich. Miles is no idiot for hiring him. LSU's only loss in the mighty SEC comes on a fluke ending. Kentucky did not crush LSU by any stretch. There have to be other schools looking at him. He's been too successful too quickly at two programs.

I got news for you. Pelini is not a candidate for the A&M job (and it will most certainly be open). No one is doubting that he is a great D Coord. But there is no consensus that he's head coach material. Why hasn't he even gotten a SNIFF yet as a head coach? There is a reason.

Other than OU with Bob Stoops, what big time college football program has had the guts to hire a coordinator as a head coach?

Most programs of the caliber of A&M, Nebraska, Arkansas, etc. are going to demand that their new coach have head coaching experience. It is really very rare for a coordinator to get a job at a big time program. For that reason I think it is incredibly UNLIKELY that Pelini will get a head coaching job at Nebraska, A&M or LSU.

Even Colorado wouldn't even consider a coordinator for the job after the way the Neuheisel hire went.

Agree. Tommy Tubberville is the favorite to get the A&M job at this point. And I think Turner Gill is a better bet to get the NU job than Pelini. Not that he will get it for sure, but I think he has a better shot than Bo.

Somebody mentioned Tedford to Nebraska?? Isn't that really a step down? Tedford is pretty much guaranteed a long tenure at Cal, so he can continue building something of a program there. Who knows, maybe in twenty years or so, he'll like win a MNC like TO did in Nebraska.
Further more, I don't think the tree huggers in Berkeley issue Fatwa on his life or the staff when they lose a football game unlike the cornmunchers, who do.

Yeah but Randy Shannon was a coordinator at--- Miami. A place he'd been forever.

I think Pelini might get the job at LSU because he is currently coaching at LSU.

I can't remember anyone other than Bob Stoops going from a coordinator position at one school to being a head coach at another elite program.

I can't imagine TO going with another "west coast" guy. He'll want to bring in someone who will return to Nebraska's power football and strong defense. I don't think Tedford fits that bill at all.

If Tedford wanted to go to Nebraska, the job would be his. Osborne would have to be a ****ing dumb**** not to hire Tedford. The problem is that Tedford is not going to want to go to that ****hole. He is one of the top five highest paid coaches in the country and has had numerous opportunities to go to the NFL. The only people who think Tedford to NU is a possibility are a few unrealistic huskerites who don't really understand where Tedford ranks in the college landscape or where they rank.

I think Pelini will be the next coach at LSU. That makes the NU situation really interesting.

It really is going to be fun to watch where all of these coaches go in the next few months. I personally don't want us to get Turner Gill because I don't think he is ready. I really want a guy who is a proven head coach, but the problem we are going to run into is the unrealistic expectations at Nebraska.

I think alot of people here want Pelini, but he doesn't really have the experience at the head coaching level that you would like to see. A coaching spot like Nebraska comes with alot of headaches, stress, and expectations so you would want someone who has the head coaching experience down so that would help with the stress level.

I hope Carr has a good retirement and he has been a good coach at Michigan, but like Osborne with Switzer Tressel had Carr's number over the years.
