so, the rumor of the day is that carr will resign and miles is going to leave lsu at the end of the year for michigan.

why would he do that? this would be a head-scratcher to me.

I would say regardless of their record, UM is still one of the most prestigious jobs in the country, and both Miles and LSU recognized this because he has a special clause in his contract about leaving LSU for UM...Also, recruiting is easy, not necessarily easier than LSU but the tradition, the town, the stadium etc. sells itself. also, UM is known for its loyalty to coaches, perhaps to a fault, but the Big 10 is not the coaching carousel like the SEC.

That begs the question, if Bo is so good why wouldn't LSU ask him to be the head coach? This is why I'm not sold on him as our next head coach.

So if they kieep him, he was too good for you, and if they pass over him, he is not good enough? Man, that is a real conundrum.

I think he will be on the short list if Miles leaves. From what I have heard, at least the fan base is very high on him.

Of course, Miles may not go anywhere. At the very least he will be able to parley Carr's retirement into a nice pay bump.

"Coach Miles is perfectly content here," O'Keefe said. "Whatever we can do to keep (Miles) content is what we'll do to keep him here. (Miles) is perfectly satisfied and happy. He wants to stay and we want him to stay. That's a good recipe for success."

It's also a good recipe for renegotiation.

Hell, all things being equal and if it is his dream job, to me no CCG in the Big 10 would seal the deal.

Because Michigan is Michigan and LSU is like LSU..

Take away the past 6 years, what exactly had LSU done in football in the past 25 some years? LSU is not Michigan and never will be..

Some rumors that they would target some current SEC head coaches.

Any names in particular? I'd be curious to hear. They certainly wouldn't go after Fulmer or Nutt. Either of the Mississippi coaches, no. Brooks - maybe. Saban?. Richt or Meyer I seriously doubt would leave their current jobs. Spurrier? hmm.....

In perception maybe, but in reality it's not like Michigan has some long list of national titles like OU, Miami, Bama, or USC does. But having said that, the bottom line is if his heart is in going to Michigan, then I can certainly see why he'd go there.

Ou - 7 titles
USC- 11 titles
Miami - 5 titles
Alabama - 12 titles
Michigan 11 titles

Don't make me hunt all over wikipedia to correct you again:wink2:

I'm not sure where you got that, because I just looked it up and under "poll-era" national titles, Michigan only has 3, with only 2 AP titles. LSU has 2 "poll-era" titles.

I don't know what "poll-era" is, but the UM website lists 11 national championships (granted, they go back to like 1901) and 42 conference championships...

 Wikipedia only lists 7 total, and that even includes 2 in 1901 and 1902.

I guess that's typical of team websites, kind of like how you look at a series record between any 2 given schools, that each school lists a different series record. On GameDay the other day they were saying how Stanford still recognizes the famous '82 Cal-Stanford game as a Stanford victory.

It just depends where on wikipedia you look. If you look up Michigan Wolverines football, it lists eleven. It also notates that they have won more games and have the highest winning percentage in NCAA history

Big 10 is such an easier conference too. Winning a MNC out of there is alot easier than the SEC

That is the first good reason I've heard. It won't be about money. LSU will pay whatever UM will pay. I know he's a Meatchicken alum, but going from the best team in the country to one that needs some help could be a bad move.

i dunno. it doesn't seem like the no-brainer move that some folks say it is.

for one thing, lsu can pay him whatever to stay. that's how the sec works. while mich. has the money to pay him whatever it wants, it won't roll out the money the way lsu will be willing to do.

for another, the academic standards are much harder in the b10 and at michigan. they certainly make exceptions to get guys in (ask jim harbaugh about that), but it is still harder than lsu.

for another, lsu has a fierce, almost religious, level of support. they love football down there in a way that is not common in any other part of the country, including michigan.

for another, michigan isn't exactly primed for a national championship run. lsu has a sheeeeetload of talent and could be headed for a long run of dominance.

i dunno. i get the "he's an alum" thing, but i don't think it is so clear cut that he will make the move.

Im pretty sure LSU would have ****ed Michigan's **** up in just about all six of those meetings too.

I keep saying it; college football will never be the same again becuase of parity. All schools have a shot at the big dance. It's all coaching now....

Spurrier and Tuberville.
