Buffalo Heart Award

Been kinda busy the last two weeks so I may have missed it.

In years past, I would see someone post nominations for the Buffalo Heart award, but I have not seen it this year.

There was a brief discussion on the Rivals board about who might get it. Lot of folks were lobbying to give it to the entire senior class, given all that they have gone thru in their 4 or 5 years at CU, and have stuck it out with class and dignity (I refer you to Skidmark's post of the year).

I'd vote for all the seniors to get it, but if it does go to only one, who?

Favorites have to be T-Wheat or Dizon. I'd go out on a limb and say R.J. Brown should get some consideration too. From walkon to special teams captain and starting LB, the guy has devoted himself to the team, playing through 5 concussions, and pushing to play more after his 6th. The guy is all heart.

A very difficult decision this year.

Go Buffs! Huck the Fuskers!

i think you should start a poll...

My vote would go to Dizon. Dude has been an animal in a Buff uniform for four years. Never takes a play off.

tough choice between T Wheat and Dizon... think I have to go with TW for all of the injuries over the years.

I agree with RuffBuff. Believe me, it isn't that hard to maintain a 2.0 unless you don't show up. Dizon's got my vote. The senior class has definitely stuck through some hard times but if you look at their W-L record it is hard to congratulate them collectively for some of the worst years of CU football since Chuck Fairbanks. Hopefully we're getting to the right side of that equation now and history may judge these seniors differently if that is the case.

BJax....really? i wouldn't want someone who decided that the team wasn't important enough to study, to win such an award.

I started two right a snyde reply dripping with sarcassm, but I stopped because you may not have known (although it was reported in the BDC).

Over the summer, Bjax had to deal with an ailing (dying?) father and an ill 2 year old son who had already lost one eye to his affliction.

Bjax has his priorities in order and worked his ass off to be there for the team. Life sometimes deals you harsh blows. Bjax will graduate with a degree from CU and for that he is a winner. He would be a fine recipient of the BHA.

i did not know that. if this is true then i retract my statement and apologize. :sad1:

So, what you are saying is that there is a valid and rational reason he did not go to class. I stand corrected. I would still give the heart award to Dizon for his play and his contribution on the field. Maybe give the Singelton Award to BJax. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Many, many things are much more important than football and school. Tough break. The kid did give his all in a horible situation for the Buffs last year.

:yeahthat:

In addition to what he's been through off the field, I also applaud him for the way he dealt with everything on the field. He had a lot of talent but neither coaching staff seemed to find a way to utilize him effectively. He was a QB, then a WR, then a RB, then a WR again, then a "h-back", then a QB again, then...you get the point. He never complained and he never gave up. He put his all into playing as best he could. And, the way he handled last year will always stick out in my mind. He took a lot of crap he in no way deserved. And, when he was ineligible this year he could have disappeared, but from what I've heard he's been there for his team even though he can't play. I think he's handled his time at CU with more grace and class then is fair to expect from any 18-22 year old. Let alone an 18-22 year old dealing with what he has dealt with.

If the award is for on-the-field performance, it has to be given to Jordan Dizon. He is the heart of the defense, which consistantly keeps CU in a position to win. The guy plays with so much heart that he needs an IV at halftime. He pushes the limit and leads the nation in tackles. Even off the field, Jordon's grades are good enough to get him second team all b12 academic honors. He is adored in Boulder and has a following in his native Hawaii. Shaka! How many people will be getting up before sunrise on the islands to watch #44 play? The guy is a Butkus semi-finalist.

Now if the Buffalo Heart award goes to Jordon, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he handed it to B-Jax as a personal gesture for showing poise and leadership through adversity.

I also would mention George Hypolite is one to watch. He combines a strong football work ethic with success in the class room and giving back to the community through volunteering.
