chalk up another one for buffthat.

Barring any last-minute snags, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini will be introduced as the new head coach at Nebraska early next week, multiple sources confirmed Friday.

Pelini will coach the Tigers defense Saturday in the SEC championship game against Tennessee and, according to a source close to the situation, will be in Lincoln for an announcement Monday.

Pelini and Buffalo coach Turner Gill were believed to be Tom Osborne's final two choices to replace fired Bill Callahan. Both have Nebraska ties -- Gill as a former player under Osborne and coach under Frank Solich, and Pelini as a former defensice coordinator under Solich.

The move further complicates LSU's postseason. Head coach Les Miles is expected to meet with Michigan Wolverines early next week about its head-coaching vacancy. LSU is making an effort to keep Miles, but he's a Michigan alum who has often voiced his affection for the Wolverines program.

Pat Forde is a senior writer for ESPN.com. He can be reached at ESPN4D@aol.com.

He was my second choice. I was hoping for Brian Kelly but Bo will do. Well I can atleast say that Bo will sure bring fire to our team. I also read where he really likes the offensive style of the Gators. This ought to be interesting who he choses as his DC and OC. I have this feeling that Watson will stay as OC but hell at this point who really knows!

I don't know how I feel about that... I heard a rumor around Lincoln that Turner Gill could be hired as AD also.

Now that one I find hard to take. I have heard this rumor also. Gill is still young and only head coached for 2 years. I think his stock will continue to rise barring his success at Buffalo. I think the man still wants to coach at this point in his life. I have personally met Turner Gill and he is a hell of a nice guy. Just my guess anyways.

Yeah, first off I don't see how Pelini could leave LSU anyways without knowing what Miles is going to do.. and I feel it would be classless for him to announce his NEW job less than 24 hours before the SEC championship...

He'll be here but due to the big game LSU has tomorrow, he is down playing it at this point. It's not like Bo is going to "announce it" to ESPN instead of his boss. He will be here Monday. Mark it down!

I keep rooting for Pelini, thank god that Dr. Tom hasn't really given serious consideration to Grobe or Johnson but hey if he wants a defensive coordinator that has done nothing with all that NFL talent this season then who am I to argue?

I cant wait till they announce bo as the new coach, and one month later he steps down and is announced the new head coach at LSU. This is how you get back at them for passing you over once.

no, i think he is talking about the article above that pelini says it is not true at all. he wouldn't want to come out the day before and say i will be the next coach at knu

sh!t, missed that middle article.

of course he's going to deny/play dumb, he'll be the official coach monday.

Technically, the Pelini quote there doesn't deny that he is taking the job. The quote just says "I don't know where they are getting their information", which could just as easily mean "I don't know who the hell leaked the fact that I have taken the job."

That hire is fine with me. Like someone said, if he is giving up that many points with an NFL defense, I cant wait to see how many he is going to give up with a big 12 defense where maybe 1 or 2 kids go pro.

LOL.. how many big games has Pelini's defense giving up big points..

Remember the year he was at OU? USC put 55 on them.

Arky puts 50 on them last week.

Georgia a few years ago put about 40 in the SEC championship game on him...

Osborne isn't someone who has great vision for Nebraska football. All he is doing is listening to a bunch of clown drunk ass Nebraska fans who somehow believe Pelini is like the next Stoops or something...

LOL, love this hire..

Good. Pelini is starting off his nu career as a big, fat, ****ing liar.

:woot: I like the hire. Wonder who he will get to run the Offensive side of the ball.

I think their offense looks pretty good as it is, but I hear TO wants to get back to the "Nebraska Style" or whatever. I guess that means "smash mouth" football. I can't see them going back to the option, though.

I havent heard too much as far as that goes. I would like to see them get more physical, thats for sure. But they did put up some points this year, especially with Ganz.

Some NU boards seem to think Pelini wants to run the spread offense.

If true, why wouldn't he keep Watson? I know, we all hate him, but his offense at nu has been pretty good.

I bet Pelini will talk to Watson about staying on unless he really has one guy targeted to be his offensive coordinator. You have to think he's going to get some major financial backing to target who he wants for his assistants.

I will admit that I was leery of Watson when he came aboard, considering his past at CU. But he did seem to do a pretty good job this year, and got them out of a couple slumping situations on O.

The only thing about Watson is that he actually didn't have much to do with this offense. That was Billy's offense...he brought it in, called it, and was the real offensive coordinator.

Many on this board watched Watson at work...trust me...you don't want him there.

That being said...I hope he gets the job...more wins for us.

You might be right, and I would probably prefer BP to hire a new guy to run the O. Im just trying to give the guy a little credit that he gave the offense a spark this year when he was calling plays.

Dan Reeves -1. thats watson

Pellini is a good hire for the corn if he does take the job. Then again he has a rep and if the so called corn "Fans" get unruly with him this guy will flip the whole state a Bird and bolt for a good defensive coordinator job. He is full of fire and If he accepts the job I for one can say man they are not gonna suck on D.

i thought so too until i saw what happened to lsu this year. with what bo had to work with, opponents should have had nagative points on the scoreboard all season.

perhaps whoever said to was catering to the fans has a point.

 They are #5 in the country, no? #3 in Yards allowed per game and #22 in Points per game (and that is mostly because of two multiple OT game). They have played 6 ranked teams, beating 5 of them. I think their D is pretty damn good. Will that translate to NU, we shall see.

They have the third ranked defense (total defense) in all of college football. What the fu*k are you smoking? Pellini's D was 4th last year, then 3rd, then 3rd.

He doesn't suck.

so far as the 5 of 6 stat, i think that the offense has something to do with that, don't you think? unless the defense held each of these teams to zero points. did that happen?

as for translation to nu, time will tell. do you have the caliber of athlete? and who is going to be running the offensive side of the ball?
