Buffs to Indepedence Bowl Official

Here's the article from the Daily Camera

Buffs get 'Bama in Independence

It’s official: Colorado officials learned Sunday afternoon that the Buffs will face Alabama in the Dec. 30 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.

The game will begin at 6 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN. It is the only bowl game on Dec. 30.

Dan Hawkins’ 6-6 Buffs earned a bowl bid by beating Nebraska in the final game of the season.

The Crimson Tide, in its first year under Nick Saban, finished 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the SEC. The Tide lost its last four games, a streak that included a defeat at the hands of Louisiana-Monroe and a regular season-ending loss to Auburn.

Joe Darwin, Independence Bowl chairman, said, “We historically get teams on the way up and I think that is definitely the case this year with these two teams. The most intriguing thing about it for us is that we’ve never had Colorado here. From a television standpoint, it’s a great matchup. ESPN is very excited about it.”

Well, cool. I guess. So much for travelling well this year though.

GO BUFFS! Beat Bama!

I agree. Better tv exposure, but we'll struggle to sell our ticket allotment. I know the athletics' department was excited about potentially going back to Tempe, having a lot of functions, events, etc. I'm sure being in Shreveport will scale back those plans significantly.

You know that you can buy a ticket in support of the Buffs and not go because it is a pain in the ass to get to that "place". Just thought I would throw that out.

I am sure there are a lot of charities that would accept it.

Definitely. I believe the ath. dept. is going to have a program like that. Buy a ticket, or two, or a dozen, if you can afford to do so even if you can't go. Whatever we don't sell we have to buy as an athletic department!

My boss is a Tide diehard, I am hoping that due to the circumstances he approaches me at some point and says "**** it, let's go to the game!!!" he is the kind of guy that will do that. :crosses fingers:

Not a bad idea.

hoping that is true. i would be glad to meet you!

Well, Allbuffs bought season tickets. Is there any interest in buying bowl game tickets around here?

do we do a drawing? :wink2:

If you turn down a bowl bid can you still get the three weeks of practice for being invited?

better show up in droves... this is from Chip Brown of the DMS

■ Petrosun Independence Bowl: Even though Alabama is playing in this game for a second straight year, Tide fans will turn out in droves. That's good because Colorado fans won't.

I looked up flights there and it sucks getting there unless you happen to charter a flight.

$550/person round trip. You have to make a layover in Dallas and take a AA puddlejumper over to Shreveport. I love the buffaloes, but I also love not taking AA flights.

Nuh uh, I'm going to Vegas.

In case anyone was wondering,

About 16 hours through America's asscrack.

You also could fly into Jackson, Mississippi, and then drive 3 hours. (It's 5+ hours from New Orleans. It's about $290 for the flight there, but you'll have to rent a car, of course.

But, by adding only 4 1/2 hours, and just 110 miles, you can go through my home town, San Angelo, TX. Well worth the detour!

Good idea but am not sure about the charity idea - what if they give the tickie to a wino who loves the tide????
