Welcome to the Independence Bowl

Indy Bowl

Guest
I just found your site and wanted to post this on here in case you have not seen......pardon the repetition if you have.

Hello Buff fans! As Chairman of the 2007 Independence Bowl, I want
to take the opportunity to welcome you to our game and our
community. During the next month, it is my hope that you will
carefully consider attending our game and spending some time in our
area. We are excited about hosting Colorado in our game and after
speaking with Coach Hawkins yesterday, I sense the feeling is
mutual. This year, we have a unique opportunity to host a team we
have never had and educate them about the hospitality for which we
have become famous. We are working closely with the CU staff to make
it easier to attend our game. Hotel and event information can be
found on our website (www.independencebowl.org). I know that CU is
busy putting together other events specifically for CU fans and
alumni. I look forward to meeting many of you at those events and
personally thanking you for attending our game and supporting your
team. Again, the entire community is tremendously excited to have
Colorado and to see Ralphie run on the field to start the game! It
is a collegiate tradition unlike any other.

From the entire Shreveport / Bossier City community, we wish you a
safe and joyous holiday season and look forward to a great game
between Colorado and Alabama.

2007 Independence Bowl Chairman

Jordon Dizon called me yesterday asking for me to come to the bowl. It was an automated message, but I still don't want to mess with Dizon even if it's a recording.

I feel like this forum got a little more reputable with this post.

this was posted on netbuffs as well.

thanks, mr. darwin, for stopping by.

playing against a storied team like 'bama is very exciting and it should be a terrific game.

GO BUFFS!

I hope he didn't read netbuffs and just posted it. He might not want us there after reading that site. :wow:

Thanks for the note Mr. Darwin, sounds like it will be a good time.

I don't remember other bowls trying to generate fan bases to attend; this is a good start. I hope that Bohn and ocmpany can get alot of CU fans down there for the game. I do not have vacation after my recall to UAL, and this does not fall on my days off, but I am trying to finagle a way to make it anyway.

Hello Buffs. Another Shreveport resident here. Any questions about places to eat, drink, and shop (for belated x-mas gifts?), etc. I'll be happy to answer.

What is the best strip club?

What is the closest casino to the stadium?

What is the closest hotel to the stadium?

This post and poster is the real deal.

Thanks for taking the time to post this Mr. Darwin

I can't remember any time when the chairman of a bowl has come on this site and worked up interest in going to the game.

My impression of the Independence Bowl has just increased significantly.

Unfortunately, I still won't be able to make the game in person. :sad1:

thanks for the welcome, mr. darwin. i purchased my tix last night.

will y'all have beads?

Update: For those who may be wondering, we have arranged special accomodations for Ralphie during her visit at a top-shelf horse farm in our area (we have a thoroughbred race track here). She will be pampered beyond belief and may elect not to return!! But seriously, in my 15 years of bowl volunteer work this is one challenge we've never been faced with. Typically, just accomodating the teams, band and administration is stressful enough. At least with Ralphie, we won't have any complaints!

That's good to hear that she's being put up in 5-star digs. It sounds like she won't be issuing complaints with the concierge :)

i love it when people welcome ralphie with open arms. southeners definitely earn a warm spot in my heart, what with georgia and the committee from the independence bowl being accommodating with her.

You may get a surprise from her. She has a mind of her own.

Rep for all you doing

Is Ralphie IV or V going? Maybe both? It's never to early for V to get used to post-season duty.

skiddy - are you headed out for a day trip?

Shreveport - v - Ski Trip

The skid clan will be soaking in the Glenwood Hot Springs, dining on Cajun food at The Bayou, and catching the game at 6,320 feet above sea level.

ski trip NEVER should be planned during bowl season. that is what spring break is for. :smile2:

Rep for The Bayou. Best cajun food this side of the mississippi.

"Food so good you slap yo mama"

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a bowl game played in the high country? Something like "The Vail Back Bowl"

Maybe VA could improve the Battle Mountain HS stadium by throwing up a 45k seat retractible roof dome. They improve everything else.

Are there as many corndogs stands in Shreveport as Baton Rouge? :smile2:

Nope but there is a guy selling some pretty good burritos on Texas Street...not kidding...

Best strip club that's closest...I'd say Hustler's this side of the Red River.
Closest Casino would probably be The Eldorado in downtown S'port.
Closest hotel might be the Fairfield Inn, the Mariott Courtyard, and a few others which are right next to the airport. Those two would be my choice though. Of course since the stadium is right off I-20 all of the casino hotels are very accessible too.
