Neuheisel to UCLA seems strange

Doesn't it seem strange for UCLA to be going after Neuheisel?

I mean-- didn't they have Neuheisel as their head coach for the past several years. Karl Dorrell is a poor man's Rick Neuheisel. I don't understand why they'd fire Karl Dorrell to hire Rick Neuheisel.

I personally don't know why anybody would hire Rick Neuhisel. I know he's done a few things that are positive, but the negatives far outweigh whatever good he's done.

And to the point, I agree. Dorrell is a poor man's Rick Neuhisel, and I don't know why UCLA would get their panties in a wad over hiring the slickster.

Maybe they figure since he's an esteemed alum, he won't be such a sleazeball...

The dude's Offensive Coordinator of the RAVENS.

Isn't he the quarterback's coach? I'm pretty sure Billick took over full control of play calling last season.

I'm not a Rick fan by any stretch of the imagination, but from what I've read he's been really great with Jon Hessler over the past few years. Gotta give him a lot of credit for that

He made some bad mistakes. He had a lot of success early. Probably too much.

I hope he gets the job AND I HOPE he does a more respectable job this time.

As for being Ravens OC it's really Billick I think who's pulling the strings and who may have hung himself by the same token.

I agree, I hope he gets it and does well. I like a bad gone good story.

I hope he doesn't get the job. Nothing against him, I think he's paid for his missteps. But Skippy is a heckuva recruiter, in a talent-rich area. That's more competition for recruits and we're bound to lose out on a few who want to stay home.

Yep. Neu has made some mistakes in the past. But I think he learned from those mistakes. He will be a good coach at UCLA. Maybe great. jmo.

And by learn from his mistakes, you mean he has figured out the proper loopholes that will allow him to skirt the rules properly. Correct.

Surely the next time he wants to play in a betting pool he will make sure he does it through his wife rather than under his own name!:wow:

I'd be surprised if Belotti took it, as I recall there is also some bad blood between him and Slick. Didn't we "run it up" on UO in the Cotton Bowl under Skippy?

That was ****ed up. All of the Oregon fans were pissed. As they should've been. Ran a fake punt when we were kicking their asses already. wow.

if Rick becomes coach I think EJ Woods is closer to be a Buff than he is today-

In Woods' own words -- http://recruiting.scout.com/2/712771.html

"-"I'd really like to see (interim head coach) DeWayne Walker get the head coaching job," he said. "He's the reason all the recruits are there and the reason defensive players want to go there. If he stays, I think everyone will stay.

"He changed the program around," Woods continues on about coach Walker. "They beat USC last year because of their defense. He's had a great career in creating amazing defensive players and has coached some of the best."-"

So apparently, if Walker leaves or doesn't get the head coaching job, Woods isn't going to stay. It's between Washington and CU, and he expects to announce after Jan. 8.

Woods also had this to say about CU:

"- "I loved my trip to Colorado," he said. "I love the brotherhood they have there. It was finals week so there weren't any parties or anything, but the players all still hung out and studied together. That was really cool.

"It snowed too, but it wasn't too cold," he said. "Weather isn't a problem for me. I just loved the whole experience (at Colorado)."

Woods also admires the Buffs' schedule. "They've got like the toughest schedule next year," he said. "They play West Virginia, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Florida State and aren't afraid to take on the powerhouse teams."

Haha... the kid has confidence in the buffs! Already predicting the conference ship! Left out Texas, someone get him on the phone.

Looks like we need to root for Pukeheisel to get the job!

They paid us back in 2001.

Though I am sure they'd like a chance to do it to Rick.

Bellotti is an interesting guy. I keep wondering when, with the recruits and schedules he's, when will he put it all together.

Speaking of Mike Bellotti he has been in to interview for the UCLA job per interweb rumors.

ESPN said he's the leading candidate this AM. Of course, they also tell me things like "The Pats don't cheat", "The Red Sox are the anti-Yankees" and the like...

I actually think Rick would be an excellent hire for them. Him and Dorrell are totally opposite in the personality department.

I think Neuheisel has learned some humility over the past few years and he is ready to make amends.

I know Neuheisel's past issues, but I think he'll be a reformed man and I'm betting that if he gets the UCLA job, he'll do great things there (and not get the program into trouble).

Boy, how many chances is this guy going to get?

I wouldn't put too much into the Belloti rumor. Probably came from the same source that said Hawkins was interviewing and really wanted the job. Yeah, right.

Bruins are all over this, they think its a done deal.

I would tend to think that Oregon would be a pretty good gig. Lots of money in the athletic dept. Decent facilities, good support from administration, strong conference, not many other sports teams to detract from the fan base. All in all, Oregon would be a better spot than UCLA, I would think. Unless he's got a thing for Southern California.
