Sources: USC's Carroll interested in Falcons' opening

I´d bring in Mottenheimer. I hate Motty, but he knows how to turn things around.

Petey aint going anywhere!

Don't be so sure. When this book comes out there is going to be a sh*tstorm at USC.

You know as well as I do that USC can NEVER do any wrong! A book isn't going to change that either. Although, I would be very curious as to what was being said in it. Especially since Bush denied the entire Parents Home/Talking to potenital USC recruits on the phone while petey was dancing around in his office, kind of crap!

Bush Book: Upon Further Review

If half of what the new Reggie Bush book claims is true, he will lose his Heisman Trophy.

That's saying a lot, considering it sits side-by-side with O.J. Simpson's in the lobby of USC's Heritage Hall.

Don Yaeger's new work, Tarnished Heisman, is the most detailed account of the Reggie Bush scandal we've seen to-date. It's doubtful there'll be anything more conclusive unless (or perhaps until) the NCAA releases the results of their own investigation.

Maybe Petey knows what's coming, sanctions wise, and is pulling a Franchione to get out while the gettings good.

Just a thought.

IMHO NCAA sanctions would be easier to handle than being the head coach of the Falcons. At least with the sanctions you know there's an end to the pain one year.

Agreed, I think he's pulling a Rick new-weasel move, jumping ship before the feces his the rotary device and while his stock is high. Once he's in the NFL the NCAA will have less control over him and will have a harder time getting him to testify. The olde "take the money and run' routine.

Come Hawk get some of those recruits, and Matt Barkley next year!!

:yeahthat:

I'll be shocked if this is any more than a bid for a contract extension and raise...

I doubt that if CPC wanted either of those he could just ask and the boosters would cough up the cash.

usc will pay whatever it needs to pay to keep carroll if petey wants to stay.

let's do some back of the napkin math. before petey, they would get maybe 30k people at a home game. now, they get 85k+ at basically every home game. so, for the sake of argument, let's say that is an attendance increase of 6 home games x 50k fans = 300k more fans over a season. and let's just say for the sake of argument that those 300k additional fans, on average, spend 100 bucks each per game (including ticket, mandatory donation, and concessions-- and i am probably low here). that would be around 5mm more in money per game, or 30mm over the season compared to pre-carroll.

this doesn't factor in increased tv exposure or donations or anything else. just looking at petey's effect on the gate revenue tells you everything you need to know. they could pay 10mm a season and still come out way ahead.

so, the question is never going to be $$. it is going to be ego that drives this. petey is pissed that some folks think he can't coach the pros and if somone will give him total franchise control, he thinks he can prove the skeptics wrong. that will be why he leaves, if he does.

It all depends on if the book shows proof Carroll or other USC employees knew what was going on. If that is the case you have lack of institutional control and there will be major sanctions.

Pete Carroll

Did the falcons offering petey total control? GM and HC? I heard it but i can't find it anywhere.

You can bet your ass that if this Reggie Bush situation brings down any sort of sanctions against USC, he'll be getting out of there faster than you can say "welcome back to mediocrity, Trojans".

Look how, pretty much scott free, ou got off. The ncaa are a bunch of pussies. They won't stomp on one of their golden boy money makers. I hate the NCAA. They are pathetic. They'll make sc forfiet some games but it won't effect their MNC because the ncaa doesn't determine the MNC. Then they'll take away a couple of schollies. USC will just keep on doing what they do.

Agreed. n-c-double-a is a joke. Ya can't tell me that the u$c staff didn't know about Rbush. And ya can't tell me that stoopsy and co. had no clue that a couple of players were earning 4 figures a week for a couple of hours work.

The ncaa should be rentin' trailers and parking 'em just off the u$c and ou campuses. But, of course, that won't happen.

were you there as a first hand witness? how about i hold a mirror up to you with respect to our buffs. what do you think about the yahoos who insist that barnett knew every party hole that went down in boulder and knew EVERYTHING the buffs were doing?

The irony here is that going to a party isnt' an ncaa violation.

Yeah, really??? Do you live here??? I do.

And by the way, I think the Rbush affair is much worse. What do we have there?? Payments to an amatuer, relationship with a sports agent, improper benefits...am I leaving anything out? Petey, et al, are playing the political "plausible deniability" card, and the good ol' ncaa is buying it.

It doesn't matter if GB knew it was going on or not. It's his program. Same thing with Pete Carroll.

the first rule of fanhood:

our team = pure and good, all that is sweetness and light.

their team = pure unadulterated evil.

example: our ncaa violations were BS, but theirs' were wholly unsatisfactory!

second rule of fanhood:

only 2 types of events in college fb occur... good for our team or bad for our team.

example: even if CU is not playing, any loss by the fuskers is good. any win is bad.

:smile2:

What's wrong with that? :smile2:
