Norm Chow fired in Tennessee

Just heard it on ESPiN radio.

Wonder where he lands next? Hawaii?? Back at SC alongside Sarkisian? In Joakland with Kiffin??

Could be interesting...

Note to mods: I put this on the college football board because to me I think Chow remains a CFB figure and is likely to end up back there. If you want to move it to the Pub, knock yourselves out...

no matter who calls the plays for tennessee, they will always be a mediocre team with vince young behind the center. He was a GREAT college QB, but I would say below avg. NFL QB. In the NFL everyone is as fast as he is, and he still doesn't look to pass, and when he does he throws turds all over the place. JMO

He has not been great this year, but the talent at the skill positions around him is WEAK. Tennessee has probably the worst WR corps in the league and beyond Lendale White, they have no one at RB. No QB is going to succeed with that dearth of talent.

Let me put it this way, our(broncos) D looked good that night

So did our special teams.:wow:

I think VY will succeed in the NFL, but only if the Titans commit to truly building the franchise around him.

As I recall it he wanted Fisher to take Leinart over Young in the draft. Fisher likes the mobile QB for some reason. While they have their value at times you better be more like Favre or Brady to really win at that level.

Yeah, that Elway guy never really worked out.

Very similar to Leftwich....

Norm Chow to Hawaii would be a miserable move for him. Until that school steps up and supports athletics, it's going to take a minor miracle (like this year) for them to have any on field/court success. Too much to overcome. Frankly, I don't see the school ever being in a position where it can support athletics the way it needs to in order to remain competitive. Not enough uber-wealthy alumni and the state isn't exactly falling over itself to throw cash at the university.

Umm, excuse me, but Chris Brown is still employed as a running back at Tennessee.

He's injured 75% of a season, though. That pretty much removes him from being any kind of asset to the team.

He won't be a Titan next year. If he works anywhere.

Chris Brown | RB
TEAM: Tennessee Titans
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'3' / 220
DOB: 4/17/1981
AGE: 26
COLLEGE: Colorado
CONTRACT INFO: 2008: Free Agent

Chris Brown-RB- Titans Jan. 9 - 9:58 am et

Free agent Chris Brown isn't expected back with the Titans in 2008. Brown played well in spots in 2007, averaging 4.6 YPC, but got hurt again and lost two fumbles in key situations. He could be considered by zone blocking teams as a No. 2 back, but isn't reliable enough to be a starter.

I agree with you but he is desperate for an HC job and has ties to the islands, they could certainly do worse.

This is the first I've ever heard that he's desperate for an HC job. I would have thought he'd be at the top of UCLA's list if that were the case.

He interviews like ****, he has been in the running for a number of college HC jobs and lost out on all of them, part of his reason for going to the pros was to round out his resume more and to better present himself as an HC candidate.

didn't hawaii name their DC head coach yesterday?

If so, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. They probably didn't want to spring for the airfare to have a legit candidate fly over to interview.

UH has gotten pretty lucky lately, but I see some bad things on the horizon for them. CU is getting a lot of players from the islands, as are Oregon, Washington and USC. Most of the really great ones are picked over by the larger programs on the mainland, leaving scraps for the Warriors. The sad thing is that high school football in Hawaii is a really big deal. Lots of talent there, which has helped keep UH from completely imploding. It's going to get a lot tougher for them to compete now. It's kinda sad. I hope the new guy, whoever he is, does a good job.

Vince Young' s record on a team that was buried in salary cap hell is not a great QB man your a damn fool. The Titans now Have 40 million dollars under the cap and his passing was restricted in chows offense. Number 2 the Titans oline is damn great. They can resign all of there players they want and add 3 serious players to the offense. Do not discount the fact they also can add players thru the draft.

Vince Young is a winner and you do not need to throw the damn ball 45 times a game to win. Poise matters and I dare anyone to say Vince young does not have poise. Damnit i should have quoted the moron who said this about Vince young.

Roydell Williams made huge strides to being a decent WR and now that Lendale has tasted what a starters position is on a team with promise he will get his fat ass in shape or see the sidelines. This draft is loaded at rb and will have quality talent in the 4th and 5th rd's at it.

Next time think before you asses NFL talent because in this case you came up lacking and exposed for lack of knowledge. LOL found it CornH*ter your a marron oh I kid , you have an opinion like everyone else even if its stupid.

I don't disagree that he has game other than to say running QBs never win consistently in the NFL. McNabb, McNair, Garrard, Ron Mexico, and Vince Young all have spent significant time injured during the course of the regular season because of how fast and violent the defenses in the league are. There game works in college where opposing defenses are slower and less skilled. The guys that win in this game, and go all the way, have pocket presence and throw the ball very accurately.

he threw enough times to throw 30 interceptions

he threw enough times to throw 30 interceptions

Another issue is that teams seem to build their offenses arround these mobile guys. WR that block more than catch. Smaller running backs (Warrick Dunn) that fast rather than being a pounder. Once that running QB goes down its not likely they have a guy on the bench thats athletic enough to step in and not miss a beat.

The pocket passer is a different story. You can have a guy on the bench that can step right in.

Brady > injured Bledsoe.
Rothliesburger > Injured Maddox.
