CU Spring Gamen Ideas???

Chibuff over at Rivals has some superlative ideas as far as attracting more fans to the game. I've posted his thread and thought if more could inject other ideas, maybe CU's AD could incorperate these to make the game a MAJOR success?

ChiBuff:
Couple random ideas and Im sure you guys can top these...so lets hear'em!

What if the resident halls lunch were served at the game? That would definitely get the Frosh out and within 4 years it would be a standing tradition represented by all four classes of students.
One year they did a similar thing on Farrand Field for a diversity fair and it worked out great with just about this much forewarning.

Also perhaps they have a contest from local grammar schools where the winning school gets to create the tunnel for the players to run out through, or even a contest with High schoolers where they create a video to introduce the players. Gets the kids involved early and gets the parents in the seats.

The game needs to get Chip involved like its half time at a Nuggets game...or have pop warner games played at half (again gets the parents in the seats).

Maybe their is a taste of Boulder for the food where vendors come out and get advertising and the school gets cheaper food? Boulder needs a festival like that.

...NDBuff what do they do at Notre Dame for the spring game? My friends all die to get back to campus for that game like its Vegas for a fight weekend.

I like the "Taste of Boulder" idea. Set it up on the grass parking lot East of the stadium. Get 30-40 local food vendors to set up and offer samples to folks.

Gah, that happened when I was a freshmen. I'll never forget that ****, they had enough food to feed about 1/6th of the people that were there, so they ended up just giving everyone really small portions (and the food tasted AWFUL). Tra Lings and Fatty J's were exceptionally thankful to the university for its indirect patronage that night. :sad2:

Also, I got word that my pet cat had died right after that, which is probably why I remember the thing so well. I can only assume that everyone's pets died immediately before or after that debacle, which was a very poorly thought out element to this so-called "diversity festival" on CU's part. :sad1:

Is Tra Ling's still around? They had the best sesame chicken wings.

Clearly you're using the term "best" in place of the term which should have been there, "most violent indigestion producing".

I have no idea if that place is still there, but it's kind of a tragic Boulder institution, so I'd imagine that it is. There was a new place that opened up on the hill right before I graduated called the Chinatown Express or something like that - their food was twice as good as Tra Lings and cost about 1/3rd less, so I guess it's possible that they could have run Tra Lings out of business.

Chinatown Express died. Tra-Lings is still around.

I love it. Cheap chinese... although I have had some questionable pieces of meat.

If you are on Pearl St., you should go to the Moongate Bistro on the East end. Cheap, sit-down lunch. Excellent food.

Hold a pro-marijuana rally outside the stadium... Hippies will flock to Folsom. JK, JK... calm down.

Somebody definately needs to get the city involved, I like taste of boulder idea, and defintaely get the student government involved. Maybe even some kind of fundraiser.

PS-What is the exact date of the SG?

I would actually love it if they would let you park and tailgate on the grass field next to the stadium like in the fall.

Maybe they could use the same pitch they use for basketball games... First 5,000 fans get free crocks or tshirts, or a date with Cody Hawkins and Scotty McKnight. That would defintately get some nice lookin' ladies out at the game too.

no way...set it up in the concourse on the east side and the fieldhouse....the point is to get people INTO the stadium

Tra-lings...I am still addicted to spring rolls today...

What about 1st Wok? Buffet lunches and $5.00 bowl of booze volcanoes at night...the perfect summer combo

1st Wok? You mean K'S China, which is basically on the roof of Tra Lings?

That is a good rooftop in the spring, too hot in the summer though.

Yeah, that would work. Or half on the east side and half in Balch.

yeah...both would be best...taste of boulder on spring day. with local merchants and CU, it would be like a "I'll scratch your back and you scratch mine" type of deal.

I like this idea...A LOT

No - he meant 1st Wok. It was on the Boulder Creek just north of Arapahoe (across the street from Musturd's Last Stand). It turned into a hip-hop club in the late 90s and I don't know what it is now. The food was decent & the patio rocked.

Dead and empty

That building has been empty for awhile now, was a Mexican food restaurant, then a bar called 'The Library Pub'.... but as I said, it has been empty for over a year now.

I think the library is moving back in, or something else. I seem to remember the for sale sign coming down recently. Great locaiton though.

Tra lings is still around, I dont go there because they got caught with rats in the kitchen.....need i say more.

K's china is the best still on the hill, good sesame chicken, pad thai and spring rolls.

There is a new place in the parking lot of K's that has vietnamese/chinese food. Very cheap pretty tasty.

Bingo. That place is AWESOME. Also, how does anyone talk about college restaurants in Boulder without mentioning a few things:

-The restaurant that's at the corner of 27th and Baseline! That was a running gag between my friends and i because while we were there (4 years 2002-2006), I think that it was probably 3 different restaurants. In fact, I bet you if we got together all the people on AllBuffs who could remember different incarnations of this restaurant, we'd probably end up with 20 different ones:wow::lol:! My favorite was Fiascos- the food was never good, but you can't beat $1 Coors and $1.50 Boulder Beer Pints. Alas, I think it's empty currently.

-Dark Horse and their $3.95 student meal deal is tough to beat, although I've heard troubling rumors that a developer has bought all the land around this area (including the plots for the Boulder Broker, Noodles and the mini-mall with Carellis, DQ and the liquor store) and is going to be leveling all the buildings to put in an upscale condo complex

-Moe's Broadway Bagel- NOTHING chases a hangover away like a water cup at moe's and an "Everything" bagel sandwich with pepper bacon.

God, I miss college.

It is empty no longer! It has become a Beau Jo's Pizza. I've been there once already. Beau Jo's is probably my favorite pizza in the whole wide world and while it's not as cool as the Idaho Springs one, it's really nice (and fattening) to have it close.

Hmm, I work down on Pearl, and I saw the 'For Lease' sign up at earlier this week.

I always wanted to open a bar there, best patio in Boulder... off the creek there. I figured it failed to due to parking. If i had enough $$, i would buy the gas station next door, bulldoze and put a parking lot in. I think that would give it enough parking to jump start the bar.
